DataPro launches ADSL, Fax solutions

People use fax for paper trails, i wonder if the fax traffic will decline with the increase in broadband uptake in SA among sme's ?

This new solution is, according to Simon Butler, ADSL Product Manager at DataPro, the "closest ADSL has come to Diginet."

It is shaped, no guarentees and no SLA. Yeah right, close to Diginet.

http://www.datapro.co.za/news_more.htm
'The really good news,' he said, 'is that it still comes in at a fraction of the cost of the Diginet equivalent. This, we believe, is the type of service offering that makes ADSL attractive for larger businesses that would traditionally have opted for a diginet solution at comparatively higher costs.

Not really. With the recent reduction in Diginet prices it compares (competes?) favourably :D with the Silver service of Diginet. It does nothing to compete with UniNet's offerings starting from R650 p/m.

These prices are exactly the same as those offered by Internet Solutions, which means that selling this service will come down to customer service and marketing.

The obvious question that is not answered in the article: So, is DataPro an IS reseller?

Sounds the same, costs the same, and released at the same time (the fibre option).
If it quacks like a duck, looks like a duck and walks like a duck....

"closest ADSL has come to Diginet."

Remember that ADSL is assymetrical. Even on the fastest ADSL line the upload speed is only 256 kbps. A 256 kbps Silver Diginet is cheaper than the new DataPro or IS solutions. Come on guys! Wake up!

I just wish I could get a nice layout of total telkom cost + Total monthly (ISP) cost from the freaken Telkom diginet section.

All I want to know is the costs involved for xSpeed + ISP = Total cost and then the scale for faster access.

ARg..

there is no way you will ever get a 256k diginet line with full internet access for 2500 pm even if you stand and your head dude.

and http://www.telkom.co.za/common/pricelist/prices/local/diginet_line_rental.html

and for line speed prices

http://www.telkom.co.za/common/pricelist/prices/local/diginetplus_line_rentals1.html

look at that site, will give you the LINE prices, the internet access part of it still to be added to that, contact your isp for that, but that will be more than what the lines cost, whatever line it is you take

when joining datapro, depending on what product you use, it will depend if they put you on IS backbone or SAIX. most of their uncapped dsl services is on IS, however with a bit of a fight you can stay on saix, their normal adsl goes on saix though

@albert, the 1024/256 ADSL compares very well with the SAIX Silver 256. And then remember that you get a SLA with Diginet at least. There will be difference of a at most a few hunderd rands. Someone else might want to lookup all the cost and compare the 2. Remember Diginet prices have come down by about 40%.

EDIT:

SAIX Silver National/International Dedicated Access provides a shared service on a ratio of 1:4 on the international portion.

Why should the 512/256 be R2500 (excl VAT) and then the 1024/256 be nicely double at R5000 (excl VAT). It is not like you getting double the speed. You are getting the same upload speed. The big advantage of having fixed IPs is so that one would be able to host something (thus mostly uploads). That is why this service is mos compared to with Diginet.

i'm not sure of the diginet prices, i stopped all mine a year ago, i doubt it compares well though, with that said however, i currently have a few 1024k business dsl, and 512k business dsl from datapro, all at 1250pm plus telkom line rental, sure its not uncapped, but when it was uncapped (before nov2005) when you reached 3gb it went to a slow motion version of a 56k dial up, so i'm perfectly happy to have a hardcap of 12gb on each, they all use saix, no latency to talk of, no problems, no shaping

@albert, Am I understanding that you are paying R1250 for 12GB from DataPro? Sounds very expensive. Can you post a link to that product offering?

Uncapped package on SAIX with 12GIG cap? Whats the point of that? you can get per gig for cheaper than that?

it includes a server and all maintanance and upgrades. i am aware i can get 12gb for cheaper, but compared to the R400 for 3gb plus R150 per gig they offer on normal lines, plus adding the price and benefits of the server, unlimited email accounts, i really think its worth it. unshaped hey.

there is no link to it. it was a product they offered when they just started their adsl uncapped, but it was changed to 12gb cap from nov 2005 due to change in capping policy fromt elkom. if you PM me your details i can put oyu in touch with someone if you are interested.

Is that (R5000) just an isp charge or does that include the normal telskum expenses?

so what do you guys reckon would be the ideal service to get for a small WISP, Datapro ADSL Uncapped or Diginet?

diginet is like a toyota. will propably go and go forever, but ever seen a toyota driver say "i love my car" ? no.

adsl is awesome, its like driving a Merc SLK55 amg on the N3. sure the cops (telkom) may stop you once in a while, but hey its all part of the fun to get back to top speed again :)

so adsl, but uncapped for 5k per month? a bit hefty i'd say. rather get capped from datapro for about 1500 including a linux box managed/owned by datapro. works like a bomb
