Mmmm, Ask JK8 he maybe have another opinion on this one two. Last week a man was murdered drinking wine in the garden, same just shot and left. HE CLAIMED IT WAS AN ASSASSINATION. Nothing stolen. My gut feel as this is the umpteenth incident that there is something bigger behind all this. Maybe its the new national sport, different than in Zimbabwe but having the same result, and E news had a poll on whether crime is out of control. Wonder what was the outcome?

that was the first thing that went through my mind too, even though there isn't anything to indicate it was a hit of any sort.

makes one wonder... are we being lulled into believing that crimes such as these MUST have a valid reason...

I think that was less likely to be an assassination because it could have been an aborted robbery. this seems more clearly to be a deliberate killing, whether the person was targeted or random is the question I suppose.

I think we view these incidents through the prism of our logic and rationality so we assume the people involved in them did too, but if they did they probably wouldn't be doing what they did.

If they wanted to rob they could do it and get done with it. The killing is becoming the defacto sport. The point to note is IF the robbery or the killing was the prime agenda. Was the so called "botched" robberies not a secondary motivation as the opportunitypresented itself after the murder. Or is it a "botched" to keep it out of the statistics? Why then not steal everything required first and then before escaping execute the "witness"? I smell a rat and it smells very peculiar.
 
Note the statement from Buthelezi and the deafening silence of the ANC. Typical.
 
I am sickened by this.

David Rattray has done so much for that entire region as well as for this country. In all honesty whether it was a hit or just a messed up robbery, is not the point, the government need to hunt his killer down and punish them, and not hide behind excuses or anything of the sort.

I am waiting for someone to play the race card in this whole issue, and they will blithely ignore the outpouring of grief for his murder spans the racial issue, ppl of all races, from all over the world are mourning his loss.

Though in all seriousness my grandfather was a friend of David Rattray and I know just how much good he did for that whole area. It has become an internationally recognised tourism destination, in large part due to him.

Reminds me of this:

The way 'these people' talk you would swear they have nothing to do with the situation or the outcome (or the solution.) Just the day before Selebi and Mbeki were telling us to stop imagining crime!!

I heard on Morning news that this might be a revenge killing. This is after he allegedly fired (no pun intended) some of his staff recently. If that's the case then, it's even more senseless than a robbery as it will surely cost even more people their jobs. The operation he was running will most probably close down now. Potential tourists are surely shocked at the news and will not be visiting this country any time soon...Surely the ANC GVT has to start viewing crime with a different eye...Why are these ministers and comissioners so complacent when people are dying. Oh well it's the same gvt that was resisting giving ARV's to people dying of Aids. Well, it seems they don't value human life that much, only during the elections!!!
