‘SABS has failed to perform in line with its mandate. I have lost confidence in the board’s ability to manage the entity effectively,’ he said.

Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies today dissolved the board of the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) with immediate effect for failing to exercise its fiduciary duties, and its alleged complicity in the approval of the substandard Tegeta coal for state-owned power utility Eskom.

This comes after three directors resigned after Davies earlier this month asked the board members to make oral and written representations – which Davies deemed “unsatisfactory” and “unpersuasive”, respectively – as to why he should not remove them from the SABS board on the back of the allegations against the crucial institution.

“The malperformance of the board has become a matter of some concern. I have received numerous complaints regarding lack of service delivery by SABS. These have come from both big and small business, including complaints from black industrial players that government is working hard to expand,” Davies said.

Should have been done years ago and this is not the only "anc" institution where this must happen
 
The only time a politician takes a broom to sweep his own scheite is when an election is coming up..
 
Is it to late though? Just close it down.
Other companies have taken over and the world doesn’t trust SABs its a silly piece of paper that tales months to get that means nothing

Looking at all the new boards and top management appointed during and after the change of guard in the ANC and National government, SABC, Eskom and SAA, etc, what is it that leads you to believe they'll be replaced by even more incompetent people? And were those guys incompetent or just captured?

I really thank you all and no sarcasm intended. Like flu shots, I treat them as negativity shots and should be fine for a while.

you obviously do not know how long SABS has been useless. If it was a year or even two maybe something could have been done with a new board. The world has moved on. SGS and companies has taken over. SABS is a piece of useless paper we are required by law that nobody in the world sees as a standard anymore.


But yes, the internal sunshine of a spotless mind.
We sure as hell know how good all the other board changes has gone over.
