Both our Polo Classic backdoors could not be opened from the inside or outside.
We got a quote from the agents for the repair of both doors. They quoted for 2 new locks at an
amount of R 18768.10 including labour and consumables.

Goldwagen quoted R850.00 per non OEM lock, which look identical to the OEM version.

We then found a workshop which did the complete job for R3587.50 labour and consumables including.

Sorry for the bad quality of attached pictures.

My locksmith has repaired Polo locks. He swopped a worn cam on a door for R900. It took about 90 mins incl some workshop fixing

He said the steel was rather poor quality

Jeepers get a backyard mechanic. Not everything has to be done by some expensive vehicle service center. My backyard mechanic would've charged you a six pack of black label for this type of work. R1300 for labour is ridiculous.

You must really, really love loading you groceries onto the back seat, as opposed to anywhere else.

Can't speak for the price. But there is a big difference in quality between OEM and aftermarket. They are not identical , specially once you open them up. Day and night difference If I have the money , I prefer OEM as it will last another 10-15 years. Aftermarket you lucky if you get 2-5 years.

I do agree that the prices are ridiculous . Dealership labour is usually insane.

OEM parts + non dealership = Win!

Indeed some OEM parts just better made.

I also do issue with VW doing the following: Touareg foglight is 5k, Touran is 2k, they the same model and fit without issues lol

Often the non OEM come out of the same factory as the OEM. There is no VW mark on the locks, it could be the same factory who supplied both versions.

Manufacturers assemble vehicles, very rarely do they actually manufacture most of their parts....
