Daylight saving still causes havoc with software

A report by USA Today has highlighted how hospital software still can’t deal with daylight saving time.

Epic Systems, a popular software system used by hospitals, still struggles to deal with this adjustment to the clocks.

I would best describe time and time zones as the second most evil thing in software engineering. (The most evil is internationalisation). We have enough problems with it and our stuff is web-based with things like Moment.js doing most of the grunt-work.

Why in this day and age does Daylight savings time even exist?

Because certain locations on the planet experience very different periods of daylight depending on season. The idea is to maximize the time people experience daylight to ensure their health and other factors.

Except it's been proven to do f*kall except maybe interfere with people's circadian rhythms twice a year.

Ever been to P.E in the winter?
Leave home in the dark, arrive home in the dark.

Yet, nobody died.

Yup especially in this modern era of electricity, it's not like oh noes it's dark outside I must stop working in my artificially lit office.

Daylight savings time has been around, in its current form, since 1966, Epic Systems has been around since 1979...

I'd rather have another hour of daylight in the evening, wouldn't you?

Does it really matter if the clock says it's 7pm and the sun is still out or that the clock says it's 6pm and the sun is out?

If someone works to a schedule it might and with my job I'll take as much daylight as I can get.

No but in some places it’s really irritating when it’s 3pm and dark outside but it also beneficial to stagger the electricity demand.

The U.K. has officially abolished it. Now it's only backwards countries like the U.S., Australia and some South American ones that have to get with the program.

Oh really?
