Daylight savings can help Eskom: analyst

An analyst has called on government to look at implementing daylight savings to alleviate Eskom’s frail power position over the medium term.

Is this guy mad? Daylight savings is hugely disruptive. Due to our massive dependence on technology for timekeeping it would be necessary to ensure that all computer systems are updated with new time zone data otherwise there would be massive confusion. It could easily take 5 years to roll that out and properly educate the population.

excuse me, but is there not another thread here detailing how SA is supplying about half of Bostwana's electricity, lately.

Are they not foolish in giving away our electricity when our own suppply demand is not met?

The logistics behind DLS will make the etollie mess look innocent(perhaps the aim)

our systems and life styles are not geared for it. That plonker seems to think that it will help for the next 2-3 years. It will probably take 5+ years to implement it "mostly successfully".
According to plonkers own calcs it would thus be pointless to try enforce that.

Having to add, and later subtract, an hour, once a year could bring this country to its knees…

Just split the country into two time zones.. but the bigger question is where all the profits have gone over the last 6 yrs when price of energy has climbed?

Heck two timezones might even benefit use from an employment view too lol.. I'm thinking make WC,NC and 1/2 EC? GMT +1 hrm would present interesting legal drama

I have a much simpler solution offer home owners and businesses solar panels and batteries at cost price after making a bulk purchase and tie these systems into the grid.
