Dayz checklist

Is that a question ?

This is what I have at the moment. I'm not going to stockpile 500l, if it gets to that point I'm jumping ship. I need the water for my daughters school as we need to supply drinking water.
If the taps are cut off I will use that water for drinking and will see if the water collection is viable. If not - i'm out.

50l will help us out if there is a really bad situation. I top up my stockpile as I use old bottles that are about to expire - because they do expire.
Why do you have to supply the school with water? Will an amount be deducted from your monthly school bill? Schools, nurseries etc will get water delivered from the city.

All in all it looks like those dates are just the standard ones that food manufacturers are required to put on their products regardless of whether they are really best before a certain date or ever expire.

Indeed, best before and sell by dates are a (very good) guess by the manufacturer on when the food tastes best and has little to no bearing on the safety of the food.

25 litres / week for 4 people?

We're 2 adults and 1 toddler and we use 5l / day in summer - just for drinking and cooking. Nothing else. Come Day 0 (if), you're gonna have to worry about keeping dishes clean enough for eating; keeping your body clean, and flushing your - well, you know.
Good luck on 6,25 litres / week / person.

But but if you're thirsty you're already dehydrated, must drink moar all the time!!

I admit I drink "too much" water, mainly because having had to extract several 10-15mm kidney stones was not much fun (thank goodness for modern surgical technology)

Ok, ironically I have also had kidney stones twice now but it looks like mine are genetic so little to do with my water consumption. They gave me a list of food to avoid and its basically everything... without salt.

Its a creche that is registered but is still being treated as a normal household by the municipality. They had a 6k water bill and that is obviously going to go up with the punitive tariff.

They could just increase fees by R60-R100 but then what if they get a fine ? So they just said we should supply drinking water for the kids and take lunch tuppperware home to clean.
This is also prep for day zero when they have no water.

I've also had kidney stones twice and I don't recommend it.

However, my understanding of it was that a genetic predisposition to developing kidney stones means that given the same diet as others we can develop kidney stones. I don't think you can go so far as to say that it has little to do with your water consumption. Water consumption can do two things to address the development of kidney stones. 1. It will assist in slowing the development of kidney stones. 2. It will aid the passing of kidney stones, ideally at a stage early enough to not cause too much discomfort.

Apologies for the off topic comment

This morning as someone down the street opened up their garage I glanced inside and there was what looked like at least 100 boxes of 4*5L in there. He had to have gotten it over the weekend some time because we leave roughly the same time and lives perpendicular to the street on the corner of a T-junction, so anybody can see inside his garage.

Anyway, we only have 4 boxes of 5 litres and 20 1.5 litres.

25 litres / week for 4 people?
Yes, 25l of water is sufficient for cooking and drinking for 4 people for a week. We put no limits on how much water anyone in the household can consume and we go through 25l per week.

None of which comes out of our weekly drinking water. When water is in short supply bathing and washing water becomes toilet water, and dishes can be cleaned with almost no water. Should it come to that.
