dc after 10mb of data usage???

And I bought a 2GB bundle. I can't download anything. With 3.2 HSDPA it take 6 hours for 100mb. The reason is it dc after ever 10mb.

Also having the same issue. Sometimes I get past the 10MB barrier (upto 20MB), but all depends on my usage.

Problem is that this "problem" kicked in soon after I topped up with another 2GB bundle, which now seems like it will take a considerably longer time to deplete.

and Ohh my God. Dialing 173 is useless!!!!!!! "Our system is currently offline sir. Our technitians are working on the problem................." I am hearing this for like 2 weeks! You are much better off with a vodacom data bundle than MTN DATA. MTN is fast now I know cause every 1 gets dc after 10mb so there are no leechers. God damn MTN. I just use them for the cheap calls. The cheapest in ZA with MTN ZONE! Trust me Ive compared the 2!

Ive called 1555 from my contract number and they say that this problem is with their Hsupport. He explained that its their highest support desk and that they are working on the problem. They say it been for 2 weeks now and they hope it will be resolved soon. Call 1555 from a contract number to get the story if you like. :-( atleast they know!

I am having the same issue, bought a 2 GB bundle to download software 598MB (it would cost me $14.95 to order the cd). I can't get further than donloading 10 MB. So frustrating. I hope there is a solution soon.

I don't think all the MTN numbers were affected, I never had such a problem...

I've got the same problem here. Phoned MTN about half a dozen times getting the usual BS about upgrades being done again. Last call yesterday morning I finally got hold of a gentleman who was delightfully honest in informing me that the network is up the creek sans paddle with no idea of when the rescue boat will show up.

Toilet Duck, by all means hold thumbs but don't carry out a similar operation with your breath as we may lose you. Will try Vodacom this morning as apparently they still have a network.

How are people doing with this problem today?

Could this be related to areas? I'm in Midrand, and have been having this issue for a very long time now.

I read somewhere ICASA is going to fine operators for bad service. This goes way beyond bad service!

If we add together all the bandwidth that all the MTN users have wasted trying to download large files, only to be cut off and having to restart the download, then I'm sure this adds up to a very nice extra income for MTN indeed!

I know I, for one, needed a very urgent 20MB file a few weeks ago. I didn't know about the problem then, and tried no less than 12 times before I got into my car with a flash disk... Money, time, frustration... That is not counting the many many many other times that I had to reconnect, and re-download files and web pages, youtube videos... Still unaware about what exactly the problem was, just noticing that I need to go "disconnect, connect, reload page, restart download" every so often...

This is an extremely unfair way for MTN to generate extra income for themselves: At their customer's expense: Money lost in terms of time, business, phonecalls, more time calling the useless MTN help desk etc, time spent troubleshooting the problem ourselves (because of the useless helpdesk)...

I think this issue from MTN should be considered worthy of a hefty fine from ICASA... Maybe an "example case" even?

Apart from my sincere hope that ICASA takes note of this problem: Is there anyone from MTN who might want to give a solution to this problem? Or more information (Not the usual "our technicians are working on the problem, they have been for the last month, and we don't know when they'll manage to sort it out."

Anyone?

I think it only affects prepaid customers that have loaded more than 1 bundle within I don't know what space of time. I called and they said some numbers were having this problem not ALL. I'd be surprised if anyone on contract is suffering from this.

I am a prepaid customer in Jeffreys Bay (EC) and have been experiencing this problem for around 2 weeks now.

I fondly think back to a time when I downloaded an ISO of puppy linux over my Fastlink modem.

I'm a contract customer and i've recently been experiencing the same thing, being disconnected after 10MB (amongst others), with the network...

Two weeks ago i could download an 80MB file no problem (in less than 10min, btw, using DAP, i might add) and now this week i get disconnected after 10MB, and that's if i can even connect during the day.

I'm in Hatfield (Pta) so i don't think it's a location thing...

Anyone found a solution yet?

Been having the same problem for about 2 weeks now, on a 2GB prepaid bundle. I bet they are doing this to limit people downloading large files. Does not seem possible that they cannot fix this. When this bundle expires, I will be switching to Vodacom.

Pure incompetence on the part of MTN. Anyway my problem is solved(just downloaded 40mb vid uninterrupted) anyone still experiencing this??
A quick call to them and finding the right consultant solved it for me....Maybe everyone else
been fixed to...I'll post what to convince them to do if anyone's still having trouble.

If you could post it anyway, then it could help someone in future...
*EDIT* Or it could help me right now: Just tested it, and it isn't working

Would be nice if you could share? :P I got up to 13MB earlier - I guess the guy who keeps pulling the plug on us must've been out on a smoke break or something!

sorry for the suspense...anyway this worked for me. call them ask them to check if there's anything wrong with your number, they'll ask why tell them your internet connection is messed/unreliable...anyway ask them very nicely to REBOOT the sim card you connect with and then after 15 minutes...voila(watching you tube clips as we speak 60mb and counting). They'll tell you what to do switch off your phone/disconnect 3g modem, take out your sim, reconnect after 15 min .etc.etc
in my case I called them during the day and only surfed at night...I'm on prepaid by the way.

I tried it two times already with absolutely no result. One consultant even said that they are aware that this problem is related to only some sims, not all. Bullocks.

I got a new sim and transferred some money to it. The new bundle is running like a charm. Already past 30MB and no break in download.

Interesting that my other sim is a 073 number and this sim is a 079 number. I have been using the sim for very long. Could the problem be related to older sim cards? Will MTN transfer my data from the old sim to the new one?
