DCS World. A serious combat flight sim

Nice, Vlerk!

Hey guys - a bit of frustration in getting up and running last night with a couple of issues here and there. We'll iron 'em out though. Part of the problem in that mission itself (for me at least) is the grid system they're using. I don't get it. They were calling 2-letter grid co-ords like Golf Hotel. Even if you look at the F-10 view in-game you'll see that the vast majority of grid co-ords follow Mike Mike (MM 123) so what they're basing their co-ords on there is beyond me. My hunch is they were simply using the broadest version of the UTM system but I haven't tested whether we could just enter KK for example into the CDU without any of the other regular 9 line information. Then, if it does work, does it center on Kilo Kilo or does it look at the uppoer left quadrant etc. etc. Need to test that.

Then this black buildings on the TGP thing...

This, I found out after the fact, is apparently caused by alt-tabbing. I had alt-tabbed early on before take off to try and see why Roosta was muted in TS. Makes sense though because we'd flown this mission before and I didn't have that problem then. So alt-tabbing's an all round no-no in 1.2.1. It made aquiring those rooftop manpads impossible.

One last shot of our tanker rendezvous before RTB. Midnite was desperately trying to be frugal with the Jet A1 since it was more than 140NM to base and he was idling on fumes. His fumes were on fumes. Alas, his refuel was not to be and myself and Crog had to wave bye bye as his systems shut down and he sunk into into the darkness below. :D

Midnite, set those curves! :p

Die wiel sal draai...hehehehe

Myself, Crog and Vlerk formed up and headed into one of the best sessions of DCS I've been a part of...

Man, having that map helped a lot. We came so close to getting that convoy through last night but we were down to 2 ships with Vlerkies having retired for the evening and weapon loads were running very thin by the time Grappler was through checkpoint charlie. We had no choice but to start doing daring gun runs and the manpads almost had us on numerous occasions. Serious white knuckle stuff! In the end though their numbers were too many and we had to RTB with Grappler destroyed a few clicks out of charlie. Better luck next time, Grappler...

Kiff screenies

Retired, now theres a nice word for getting vapourised by enemy fire :D

Nice mission to, a 4 ship will be proper!!!

Edit, just thinking a bit more, 4 ship, you could split that city in half , the target calls come up all over the show , each 2 ship could then focus more on their 'sector' so to speak, but naturally with some cooperation depending on available weps left at the time.

I also prefer to fly earlier in the evening if its during the week.
I'm keen, will see how the day goes.

Any advice you guys can pass on before I attempt to fly with you? Still on the SU 25, trying to get to grips with it all.

Havent flown that one in ages so honestly would not be able to help with the systems on that plane SteveO.

If you have a tablet or laptop, get some of the better tutorials downloaded for quick reference while you fly. Its kinda nice to have something handy to refer to as things come up that you want to do, for me at least I learn better that way than just reading, kinda like on the job training ;)

Check out Flanker training for reference on the SU-25, Irohand had some magic tutorials from what I remember and they should still be relevant.

Eagle wiki good resource for stuff (perhaps not to much on the Frogfoot though but scrounge around.

And of course the Eagle forum.

Yeah I'll spend some cash on getting A10 once I feel happy flying the SU.

Thanks for the help :)

Look forward to having you in the air, SteveO.

So okes, we on for 7pm?

I'm getting my RAM tomorrow so I'll finally be able to fly. And please make the next mission night ops. Really need to get some night flying done since the 104th hardly run realtime ours anymore on their server.

Hey guys. I am new to DCS and would like to know where I cab find good Tutorials.

Some decent basic flight training (start with the SOP[Standard Operating Procedures] training):

I like Gerry Abbott's tutorials:
http://www.youtube.com/user/gerryabbott?feature=g-user-c

This is a nice breakdown of the CBU's :

The in-game tutorials are decent, but requires you to read the manuals before doing them. You'll probably need to redo them a couple of times to understand everything though.
