I know there have be numerous post about ddns and yes i have read through many of them

The is thing im obviously behind a dynamic ip and looking at hosting my own website and possibly small mail server.
I know there are many free ddns servers around but i dont want to be a sub-domain of whoever.

Im looking for a ddns service that will point straight to my domain ie mydomain.co.za that doesnt cost an arm and a leg? anybody got any ideas?

also preferably a service where i can edit my own dns records

Two options; host a sub domain of yours with a crowd like DynDNS. So something like dns.yourdomain.co.za will be hosted with DynDNS. Then you can point dns.yourdomain.co.za to www.yourdomain.co.za. This will cost you about USD30 per year.

Or simply use one of the many freebies out there and point your WWW record to the new CNAME.

I think they offer a free version, but the paid version is better. Sometimes you are booted off the free service with "abusing the account' responses!!! Can be quite annoying. Go for the paid version if you can. Otherwise get yourself a router with decent account with a few static IP's.

Yeah was looking at static IP's but im just a student with a small bussiness and cant really justify or afford the cost.

I also see that a number of ISP's are offering free ddns if you have a dsl account with them.

Some of the ISP's offering the above mentioned services point to yourhost.xyz.isp.co.za for free, Other ISP's may charge say R50/a for yourhost.yourdomain.co.za

but will just have to look around and make a few calls
