DDR2 800 ram question

Transcend AxeRAM DDR2 1066MHz 8GB Kit (2*4gb sticks) for R2000.that a good price? Is axeram actually any good?
 
That's a lot of RAM :eek: Though I guess the price isn't too bad. Haven't used that exact brand yet, so can't comment on the quality.

Do you actually need that amount of RAM? :confused:

EDIT: Buying it from Rectron I suspect, only noticed it on their price list now :o

EDIT2: Small point, but it's DDR2-1066, not DDR2-800. Make sure your motherboard supports it, otherwise it'll only run at DDR2-800 speeds. And with DDR3 and the motherboards that support it steadily becoming cheaper, I wouldn't spend that amount on DDR2 RAM right now.

I'm gonna use to for 3d modeling and 4gb(2*2) ram not that much cheaper. I have Gigabyte G33-D2SR which supports 1066.

Make sure you use a 64-bit (x64) operating system with that amount of RAM, or else you won't be able to utilize everything :)
 
yes, im planning on getting vista x64. Have they sorted out the compatibility + performance with it yet? I want a shell for an operating system.If they made 3ds max for linux I would just use linux.

According to the numerous forumites who are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista they have indeed. You might want to wait until they have given you their own opinion, I can't really speak on their behalf ;)
 
vista 64 bit flies man

i have 4 gig memory and no problems

also its been 4 months since my last reload and my pc is still running as fast as the day i installed it

also if your going to be doing that kind of work you should consider raptors western digital or cheeteah's from seagate
 
IMO Std. DDR2-800 is more than enough. no need to go pay extra for 266Mhz extra bus speed :p

+1. If you look at corsair xms2 RAM for instance, 1x2GB costs ~R530 for 800MHz whilst 1066MHz costs R750. But it's of no use because using 800 in dual allows for an 1600 fsb but you don't have that.....

Interesting way of putting it. All dual channel does is double the bandwidth from the CPU to the RAM from 64-bit to 128-bit, not actually doubling the bus speed...

Have a look at this. Also, according to that Wikipedia article, there is no significant difference between single channel and dual channel on a modern system.

But to use DDR2-800 with a 1:1 FSB:BUS ratio you need a 1,600MHz FSB, but it needn't be dual channel ;)

Yeah but in layman's terms thats how most people understand it and it's ~~ how it is. This is why we don't need 1333RAM for a 1333FSB CPU

Of course you can. Starting with Linux. Move up to Linux 64-bit and the only thing you don't beat is the speed of light. Oh wait. Linux beats that too.
