Hi,

I am looking for some DDR2 desktop RAM.
Managed to resurrect an old p4 box and I want to use it to run plex. its got 1gb in currently, and its terribly laggy.

anyone have some?
I'm in jhb.

thanks,
p

Windows XP. Little problems of installing if it has AHCI SATA controller and you don't want compatibility mode.

i got win 7 on it.. and i set it to the lean mode with no animations etc and its still slow man.
i can try xp... think it'll fix it?

I have a lot! Will need to verify when I get home, but there are loads of sticks from SDRAM, DDR, DDR2, DDR3, not yet DDR4 :p Mostly the older RAM.

Windows 7 with 2gigs RAM will do the same. 3 or 4 gigs are acceptable. Not sure if your mobo accept 2GB memory modules, you must double check.
Yip, XP feels completely perfect with 1Gig.

It depends. If you're taking a few or a lot of sticks, their will be a price. If one stick is what you need 2x 2L coke for my brandy will do :p

I have a mate with 4gb sodimm ddr3...for laptop. he wants R200.

I want the DDR2 from EMILES!!!!!!!!

Try the standalone version of XBMC called openelec: www.openelec.tv
It needs minimal resources and runs on 1Gb Ram perfectly fine
Why do you need windows that hogs resources if you are only going to watch videos?

mobo is a d945gtp ... and says lga775 on it.
what does that mean?
I'm sure it will take it?

That's just the mobo model number and socket type for Intel. LGA775 were the years of DDR2 and cross-over to DDR3.

its going to work fine then yes with 4gb RAM? ddr2?

No, if it is Intel Desktop Board D945GTP, 4GB sticks are not supported. She takes maximum 4x2GB sticks, up to 8GB, but will use maximum 4GB, due to addressing restrictions. So 2x2GB or 4x1GB is your maximum.
All single sided 2GB sticks and some double sided 2GB sticks are incompatible with this board, so must check before buying.

Thanks to other guys who responded, I will reply PM, I am in JHB, near Diepsloot. :)

ok thanks SAJUNKY.
I'm also near diepsloot... :-)

It is a D945GTP board, not a "G"- does that make a big difference?

I will definitely test before I buy!
