Cape Town - Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille has backed Lindiwe Mazibuko's candidacy as leader of the Democratic Alliance in Parliament.

"In helping our party to grow at unprecedented levels in the local government elections, Lindiwe has proved herself an exceptional leader and a formidable opponent of the ANC," De Lille wrote in a letter of endorsement released on Sunday.

"I believe that she is the best person to take our party forward in Parliament. In this historic moment, she is the best person for South Africa."

DA MP Mazibuko, 31, will stand against the party's current parliamentary caucus leader Athol Trollip in the elections on October 27.

Interesting.

The tea girl is going to become the Madam :D, I wonder what Julius will say now.

Good luck to her!

She's an excellent speaker and a wonderful representation of what the youth of today should aspire to be like.

Best wishes to her on her journey!

The DA has always needed a black front if they ever wanted to have a serious chance of winning aaaand it looks like they might finally have it. Next step is making sure their voting posters represent that. I wish elections in this country weren't determined by race and bull**** buuuut since they are I hope the better team finally starts using that to their advantage.

She would actually make a very good candidate to lead the DA one day... SA needs to have its first female president.

Totally in favor of this. I can't say it's unexpected either... we've been talking about this for a while now.

Definitely in favour of this, she is a damn fine representative for the DA..

Shares much of the same characteristics as the "Madam" Helen if you ask me.

shes not black enough for the masses, too many "model c" tendencies

Always seemed like a class act. Very impressive young woman.

What exactly is her story, how did she get to be so refined and intelligent? It would be nice if the majority in this country could start aspiring to that level of refinement and intelligence, rather than always defaulting to the term "coconut" when someone happens to speak english properly.

She poses a complete contrast of Julius...

- She's intelligent
- She speaks impeccably well (and will argue a lawyer to pieces from what I've read)
- She's a... well... She!
- She is actually a good leader, and an even better role model!

It won't do anything for the DA getting "black votes". Black people don't take her seriously.

I don’t place her exactly but if she’s the one I’m thinking of, she’s formidable and impressive.

True, the masses will always see her as "black only on the outside "... a coconut :D

And therein lies the rub. To have a better life you need better ways. Viewing those better ways as somehow a "white thing" is to avoid the thinking and actions necessary to gain the better life the masses always complain about not having.

u must also remember 1 other thing .... she is a female ... and like it or not .. it will play a big part in votes .... traditional black males do not like women in power ... so they will not vote for her .... for the DA to really challenge the ANC, they need a male. Sad to say ... but it is the truth .... I even think that the americans felt the same ... they would rather vote for a black man than a female ( they chose obama over hillary ) .. so maybe not limited to traditional black males :)
