De-mothballed power stations face pollution scrutiny

It is now beyond ridiculous.
Yes - pollution is a problem, yes we should avoid it as far as possible - but surely 3-5 years of those stations while we build new ones is an acceptable cost.
Or does the guavamint think that the pollution caused by cooking fires and people stuck in traffic does not exist?
 
Obviously kortbroek has as good a sense of priorities as he did while heading the National Party.

The two whities in the cabinet look equally incompetent and dangerous for the country.

What about all the generators running? All the generators that people and businesses buy are probably much less efficient than those old power stations.
 
The first three posts says it all.

ffs, get the mothballed plants up and running to ease the load - then phase in scrubbers and modern equipment to clean the emissions

first priority is to prevent an electricity grid meltdown - we wouldn't want that, do we?
 
tensions are running high, but we've got to think about the whole situation clearly and formulate a long term plan on how to meet our energy needs.
 
What about the masses of cars stuck in traffic for hours on end? These are some serious pollution concerns!
 
And the millions of generators.
And the tons of sewage being dumped into the rivers and water supply.

But - no "let's kuier at the dam and discuss long term plans"

The only effective long term plan that would work would be to get rid of our current government posthaste and get a competent replacement.

Seeing as that not going to happen, I guess we'll have to try muddle through or collapse.
 
All this environmentalist talk these days are a load of nonsense with hidden agendas. Take for example carbon credits, theres a huge growing business behind trading of credits that is taking place globally.

Why for the last 2 or 3 years has there suddenly been a surge in enviro related products and movements. Take Biodiesel for example, suddenly its become "legit". The only reason there is an increase in all of this, is because ways have finally become available to commercially exploit these "new" technologies.

For Gods sake, cars produce tons of pollution. I say fire up the coal stations and bring stronger emissions laws to SA.
