Dead doves in CT

I drove past them yesterday and wondered at it too. Saw at least 10 on the side of the road in a short stretch of time.

Hi readers. While it may be interesting to watch a flock of doves perform their twisty manouvres in the skies, it is disturbing when out of the breath-taking feat, a couple of objects that seem to have been part of the flock, all of a sudden come tumbling to the ground! These were actually furadan-poisoned doves. Four came dropping down succesively within our scope of vision. Then the doves fly down not so far from us, so we rush to see what is happening.

Though intended for insect and soil pests, carbofurans like Furadan is highly toxic to mammals and birds and has been used purposely to target predators and birds in Africa, USA and UK. A single grain will kill a bird and birds usually eat numerous grains of it mistaking it for seeds. They die after a short painful reaction.

I know there is a fixed air quality control station at the Buccleugh interchange in Midrand because it is the most polluted interchange in the country... and yet businesses set up shop there... baffles my mind...
