Hi,

I have a Lumia 800 that's basically dead. It doesn't startup. Initially it just froze with the Nokia logo on the screen and when I would put it onto charge then the battery indicator would come up with a red bar at the bottom.

I took it in to a Nokia repair centre where the guys worked on it (I hope) for two weeks but they couldn't repair it. They did say it had India firmware on it tho. (I bought the phone 2nd hand about 10 months ago - been working fine until now)

Now when I put it onto charge, the phone vibrates in the following cycle - long vibrate, 5 second delay, short vibrate, 32 second delay, long vibrate, and so on (I used a stopwatch to time it). Nothing comes up on the screen.

I've googled till I'm dizzy and tried several "press this key until vibrate then release this key" methods but no success. The main key combo I've tried is hold down the volume down, power and camera buttons until the phone vibrates. Then release the power button only until the phone restarts. The prerequisite for this combo to work is that the phone must be switched off. However, with nothing come up on the screen I have no idea if the phone is switched off Needless to say, the combo has not worked.

There are ways, apparently, to change the firmware on a dead phone but not having done this before, I'm wary and would only like to try this as a last resort.

Luckily I have my N8 as backup so I'm not without a phone - just all the better features on the Lumia.

If anyone can help (preferably in the Durban area) please drop me a PM. And ofcourse, ask me anything further on this thread.

Thanks!
Gendibal.

it sounds that it when into boot mode. other than that i can help unles i have the phone with me. you`re right about the combination of buttons. it`s the standby plus the volume up button, to get it into boot mode. have you tried browsing through xdadevelopers.com

Thanks guys. Got it eventually sorted with help from xda (Thanks I O U - no pun intended; -) and Youtube. The guides on xda are good but only when you see someone actually going through the process is it absolutely clear.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. I was going to suggest the Nokia Care Suite. Was that how you fixed it?
