Dead man receives e-toll SMS

Having just read the article in the Beeld, the person said that his father did not have a vehicle registered in his name for 2 years prior to his death.

It (perhaps) shows just HOW outdated their database is...

Thanks Alex and Daniel, at least some of the formites are not keyboard warriors and can think further than just concentrating on blinking their eyes.

how long has eNatis been around?

Kinda interesting that they say you have to prove it wasn't you.. What I read from this is that everyone should get fake number plates of their favorite government official and use that driving through eTolls..

After all the nonus will be on said government official to prove it wasn't him ;)

You are right.

She does not have to do anything at all. She notified them and that is enough.

If and when they decide they want to press charges, they will be forced to get updated e-Natis information which will be used in the criminal charge. There they will see that they have no case against her and will stop their s**t.

However, if they do decide to proceed with criminal charges based on a 2-year and older e-Natis database, malicious prosecution will be easy to prove and millions in civil claims is a possibility.

In these cases I will just ignore Sanral and their demands. The onus is not on you to prove that you do not own the vehicle, but rather on them that you do.

You seem to have toned down the rhetoric?

Not really.

I am still of the opinion that the whole e-Toll system is here to stay and eventually all road users will be forced to pay.

But, they cannot simply inform you that you have a thousand rand bill for a vehicle that does not belong to you - and then force you to prove that you don't own it. I'll personally tell them to p*ss off and do what they want.

And, yes, I will still pay when I use their roads...

Obviously one of the tenets of the constitution, viz you are innocent util proven guilty in a court of law, does not apply to SANRAL et seq.

I'm pretty sure the people at sanral are quite ignorant toward the law outside of their little eToll act. It would explain the amount of rubbish that spokesman is spewing.

SANRAL reminds me so much of the SABC.

A parasite leeching off the citizens of this beautiful country.

My sister received an SMS, her car that was standing in a locked garage ran up a bill of over R600. Sanral says she must prove it wasn't her car. She told them to prove that it was her car, as in SA you're [presumed to be innocent till proved guilty... She's one mean cow (I'm allowed to say it!!!) so I see an interesting court case coming up. And yes, she has more than enough money to pay for an attorney and advocate.

A man who has been dead since October 2012 received an SMS warning that he had overdue e-toll fees

Hang on,maybe it's the Dec hangover but didn't this scam only became operational in Dec 03 2013?I foresee big k*k for the Gauteng motorists.
