'Dead' phone calls
It is happening increasingly to me when making a phone call, the phone rings once, or less than once, and then goes dead. I don't get through to voicemail, just silence. It sounds exactly the same as if the recipient has picked up the phone immediately but isn't speaking. But (it turns out)actually they heard (half) a ring and then it stopped, so they didn't pick up.
This has happened to me on Telkom-Telkom, Virgin-Virgin, and Virgin-Vodacom. It has happened to some of my friends too.
What is worse, I am being billed for these non-calls, at least on Virgin. Telkom I can't check.
It seems odd to me that this is affecting both landline and cellular calls. Possibly it has something to do with the loadshedding.
Is this happening to anybody else? The Telecom companies have no incentive to fix this problem, they are just profiting from it. It is up to us.
