DealExtreme.com, shipping to Durban

Hi,

I have bought a shipment of gadgets before from DealExtreme.com, which arrived from China with free delivery. I know in the Cape we pick up such shipments at Cape Mail. Has anyone ordered from DealExtreme, with delivery for Durban. I am going to be there for the next two months and want to order a shipment to get there. I would like to know if all your stuff arrived fine (ie. not lost in the system), where it must be collected from, and any other useful information you may have/know.

Cant say for sure but the same probable applies and it will go to Durmail.
 
I only ordered once but after seeing others with the same response the delays seem to be on the SA side most of the time...

For instance my order took 2 weeks from China to JHB.
Then they sent a slip to my POBOX which I received the day before they were meant to send the items back(21 days) when phoning the details on there they wanted my invoice which I mailed and faxed through that day.
I received the goods a week later(I did not wait for another collection slip).

So next time I am going to phone them for a SA tracking number 2 weeks after posted from DEALXtream and continue doing that every 2 days until I have the SA tracking number(and then send them my invoice).

that should save a few weeks.
 
can some one please tell me,

sorry i'm confused about the receiving end of things? how much do you end up paying in duties and vat?

or do u just pick up when it arrives?

Select the $ 0.01 "drop shipping" option so it comes as a "gift", no duties, VAT. Just collect.
 
I picked up 2 orders from Dealextreme from my local post office just on Wednesday. All the incoming mail goes to Durmail which is the central mail hub for Durban. They then send to your local post office together with a bill for duties and clearance if there is any. Your local post office will send you a notice slip advising you how much to pay to get your package.

My orders from Dealextreme attracted has no duties and clearance so far.
 
I'm a first time client with them.
Got a mail in the post saying my package has been detained by customs and I need to go to Capemail or send POP etc so they can forward it to my local PO.
I'm annoyed, as DealExtreme sent my package in two shipments and the one that came in was like $15, while the other will be $100..
Hope I don't have to pay that duties now already..

they did the same with me :-(
 
They mark the values it the items real low (compared to what you actually pay) so it's not going to amount to much.

You will have to pay up. It works out to round-about R25+25% of the package value. I have to pay almost R100 on a <R300 package...
 
Look, excuse this question, you guys seem to be in the know. Do we need an importers license or something from SARS to order from dealextreme.com ?

No. Only if you plan on importing more than R20k IIRC. (or 3 packages, but there are ways around that problem)
 
Importing personally you have R20k per annum. More than that and you need a license.

Careful of the reduced shipping invoice to jook customs. They will randomly request proof of the original payment to see if it matches the shipping invoice.
I once imported a Herotab M816 from China. I specifically told them to put an original invoice with the shipment. Just my luck they didn't and customs requested the proof of payment. The invoice said $50 for a $200 tablet. Customs fined me R2,200!!

On relatively small orders (I'm talking sub 50 dollah) from DX they stick lower values on a form on the back of the parcel. I have never had one of these stopped or queried. My view is if they do, I request DX to send me a matching invoice to what is on the parcel, and take it from there, as they took the decision to value it at lower.

It's if customs want to see the actual payment that the problem kicks in. It won't match the parcel or reduced invoice.
When customs fined me, I sent them all the correspondence showing that I had not requested the lower amount and customs did not care. They said I must take it up with the supplier.
 
Dealextreme almost never puts on the correct price on the package, but my packages ALWAYS gets stuck in customs, and I always send the real invoice I paid. I've never been fined, just had to pay regular customs and clearance fees.

I'll worry about that one when they stop one of mine. :p
 
Thanks to Mike Smit for the heads up. Okay, this is all new to me. Did you guys who had been through the process of purchasing from Dealextreme.com ( I think they are in China ? ), find any advantage in the final cost to you, as compared to actually buying here, in RSA, I'm just curious... ?
