I ran the pharmaceutical services (head of department) for a psych hospital. You want to help your friend if they are serious about comitting suicide then there is only one thing you can do.

Go to the house, over power her restrain her and take her to a psych unit. She must be commited and put on observational watch for 48 hours. When the will to live is lost the brain does serious things she needs medication immediately

EDIT:

if you dont want to be direct talk her down if she goes for pills let her when she ingests its notify next of kin immediately she will be sent to ER they will do gastric pump and refer psych unit there after. This is actually the better option if you want to avoid the direct approach and are unable to talk her down. If she causes physical trauma she can die within minutes or even instantly. With the drug option she has a couple hours and can be easily saved not to mention it would be much easier to get her to a psych.

In case anyone is wondering yes this is the grim reality of genuinely suicidal people, tough love is necessary to force drug therapy then only can the recovery process begin

thats not funny. Depression is a proper illness and a horrible one. Its a disease no healthy individual can see or relate to. These people are prisoners of their own minds their conscious mind has been completely over powered by the subconcsious. Laughing at people who suffer from depression is like laughing at an amputee its just wrong

:erm: I live 300km away
I`ve notified next of kin and close friends + family
I possibly stupidly suggested masturbation, because climax releases serotonin and other happy stuff which will hopefully dampen suicidal feelings.got her to laugh, dont know if thats good or if shes just faking

another friend used pills and got her stomach pumped... so I think thats a 'safer' option...

Bad situation to be in. I think if the first time someone does this, it is a cry for help and you should do everything in your power to talk them down, as you are already doing which is great.
Once this starts happening again and again, it becomes a cry for attention not help. That needs to be handled differently.

i hate this more than you'll ever believe. they're seeking attention, because:

1.) If you want to kill yourself, it's not that hard
2.) You can always call somebody up and let them cheer you up WITHOUT asking them the most creative way to kill yourself

People that do this are emotional vampires and i'm sorry that you had to deal with someone who has psychological issues

Shame :(

She has a lot of pain inside, depression if it is, can be nasty, and it becomes easy to rationalize suicide...

Hope this ends positively.

Get the family to her asap and get her under watch...

For anyone thinking about the attention seeking etcetc.... you may be right, but it doesn't change the way you react, you look after and protect the people that matter in your life.

She woke up this morning, alive and unharmed, her brother told me he'll deal with the rest...
she sent me a message thanking me for watching over her...

Can you imagine if she woke up dead? Merle or Darryl would have to finish her off.

Or they are emotionally stinted and this is a real cry for help. Don't wildly assume things about people you know nothing about. There are a plethora of reasons as to why someone might consider taking their life, and often they will cry out for help beforehand...

you can cry for help without telling someone how you'll do it. if you care about someone you don't make their life uglier. it also shouldn't take you more than 4 times to kill yourself as with many people i knew.

this is why i'm cynical of people, so many people want friendship so they can fill their own emotional hole. i'd rather die alone than know i've made anyone's life ugly, so i can't grasp how anyone can do this

I remember the dude in Braamfontein who was threatening to jump off the top of the building. People dared him jump and he chickened out.
