Wellington - The New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) expressed regret at Robbie Deans' decision to coach arch-rivals Australia on Friday but said his appointment showed the depth of talent in the country.

The 48-year-old, who missed out on the All Blacks' coaching job to Graham Henry last week, was named on Friday as the first foreigner to coach the Wallabies.
