That's my latest Speetest. Looks great, right?

So why the **** am I not able to stream anything without it buffering? Netflix, Showmax, YouTube, AppleTV+? All of them will degrade or simply stop mid-picture.

So, I thought I would be clever and download the shows I watch from Torrents. Ha! Fat chance of that happening when the download speed on P2P is less than 100Kbps.

And no, I am not on your bullshit R250 a month unlimited deal. I am paying Afrihost R1349 a month for a FIXED LTE-A service with a set amount of data. that, my friends, will not be the case for much longer because what you are doing right now is nothing short of ROBBERY!

Asshats!

Ridiculous, log it with them for investigation and tell them you'll go public if they don't fix their ****. That's a sh1tload of cash to pay for such a contended and shaped service.

They likely open speedtests completely and shape everything else, that's why you're seeing those results.

BTW, I have had Afrihost look into this for over 3 weeks now and they have not provided any answers. MTN sim is on its way to me. As soon as I test it and am satisfied it works the way internet is supposed to work I will ditch these clowns at Rain. Almost as bad as Telkom they are...

Rain is obviously oversubscribed and is prioritizing speed tests to camouflage it.

Every single RAIN subscriber is experiencing this that I know of - including myself, since the last round of loadshedding took out our ADSL service.

Last night I was trying to watch Showmax and every 5 minutes it would freeze, then show me Tetris and gradually continue. I did a speedtest and got 49Mbps d/l.

This situation has left me fuming! They are ripping us off!

I'm trying download stuff on YouTube before the power goes out and it's taking forever. First video isn't even done yet and the power is going off in 9 minutes

I know it's not the purpose of this thread but do you know if such a package can be "passed on" to someone else?

I don't know why you would want it. It looks great on speed tests but in reality it just sucks. It's pretty obvious that they are trying to grandfather the Fixed LTE-A segment of their customer base by making the service useless. This will force us to cancel and go with something else.

I know someone who would be interested in it - also I have a similar package - Rain fixed LTE - and I do not have any issues. Yes speed tests show flying speeds but normal usage is still ohk.

i don't think its even shaping some connections for me everything is throttled to sh*t i used to be able to stream 4K from youtube without buffering, now 480p is a struggle the other day it auto selected 144p as it was the best i could stream at.

8am - 12pm slowish
12pm - 1pm random disconnections
1pm - 5.59pm useless throttled connection
5.59pm - 11pm normal speed "Usable"
11pm - 3am pretty fast normal http and even torrents
3am - 4am Network dead
4am - 8am fast again

i'm in pe i think there are too few towers and too many sharing those towers

I have 4 towers around me. If I leave the Huawei B618 network selection to Auto it seems to default to the worst performing tower (CID). If I set it to only use 1800 I get these allegedly fast D/L speeds but no upload. Set it to 2600 and I get a balanced, but very unreliable connection. But now even when the speedtest says it's blazing at over 30Mbps I can't stream without issues. Feckin ridiculous.

My MTN sim arrived a short while ago. I can't put it in yet because I am waiting for my third bout of load shedding for today, so I thought I would check on Rain's speed.

YouTube and Showmax have been behaving in spite of the load shedding and other weather related calamities. Can't wait to test MTN sim.

Same issue on my side, also Fixed LTE, Speedtests are always above 30Mbps but don't even think of watching anything on youtube, last night the best speed I got on youtube was 1.5Mbps, quality dropped to 360p which is unwatchable.

I'll cancel it in January if there's no improvement, and then order MTN Fixed LTE, I get around 70Mbps in my area, and that's with normal LTE.

Done with Rain.

Ran that test just the other day, it will start out fast but will end up being below 4Mbps. Think Rain set a hard limit on Netflix as well.
