Death and Heaven...

I have had the machine probably now for 6 months and it is probably 3-4 years old. Bought it from a friend who moved. When I got it, it didn't work but I just opened it up, disconnected all the pipes, cleaned them (one was blocked with calcium/limescale buildup), and put it back together again. Replaced the gasket (R50 from @home) where the portafilter goes in. And its working perfectly.

Although I am very surprised and impressed with the machine, personally I would not buy Breville. But at R800 I couldn't resist. For R3500 I would look at a good second hand one. Check maybe on gumtree or facebook market etc. and you might find a deal. I won't pay R3500 for that one, Maybe R1500-R2000 news. Look for a special?. If you want to get Breville, rather pay a bit more and get the bigger ones with the grinder built in.

Check this post from Snyper he got a good deal. https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/thr...presso-cappuccino.977569/page-4#post-22800978

Just an example, typing 'espresso machine' in Facebook Marketplace I find this one:

Thanks a lot, I am quite sceptical when it comes to second-hand goods though. Unless it's a friend or family member who I can trust.

You are right. It is always a bit of a gamble. But maybe just check if you can't find something in your price range, otherwise the Breville's are not 'bad'. When buying second hand also make sure the machine is still serviceable and parts can be replaced. For example the breville venizia you can still get the gasket replaced, pump replaced, boiler replaced etc. , I guess for as long as it is on the market. But I don't see them removing it soon as it is their entry level machine.

I was trying to sell a Phillips Saeco manual espresso machine the other day. If you know what you are doing it really makes damn fine coffee! Barista style. Unfortunately just idiots were trying to rip me off on the net. Gave it away eventually to a friend. I just do normal pour over now with a decent grinder at home.

Well it is almost a month now. And I am starting to hate it. Get a cup. Go sit down and I have to get back up to refill.
Waiters were just so much more convenient!

Switched to singles after the first week. that 500g beans should come close to lasting a month. Got a spare 1KG pack just in case.
