Debian 5.0.3

you could get local bandwidth, go here and download overnight.

+1.

Get yourself prepaid local bandwidth at Axxess (www.axxess.co.za) for R12/gig, and then download the first cd.
Thereafter you can use local cap for updates or extra packages you would want.

Otherwise you can simply download the netinstall (~150MB) and install whatever packages you want. This usually ends up being around 500MB in total.

Only R12? That's damn cheap!

What all is on the 5 discs that FOSS is selling? Is it just 5 copies of the same thing, or what?

it's all the packages you might possibly need for debian.

personally I try to install using the smallest install media and then install the rest of the system by downloading from the local sources.

I'm not talking about downloads. Talking about purchasing it physically at FOSS. They sell it for close to R200 for 5 discs. I only want one.

If you are ignorant then it's your problem.

ÂżQue pasa? What is this aggravation about? I just didn't know at the time whether it was 5 copies of the same thing or what it was. Sheesh.

A 5 second search would have put you on the right path. Anyways, sorry for the aggravation. Linux is not really for everyone, spoon feeding is not the MO, most places will expect you to at least RTFM a bit.

You are saying a page titled "Debian GNU/Linux on CDs" with a domain of debian.org (address being www.debian.org/CD) as the first result doesn't say to you let me click that and see what it says?

Some Linux users don't be arrogant, it gives us all a bad name!

from having read a number of threads i suspect it may be a case of people being exasperated at the OPs general lack of searching for anything but more wanting to be spoon fed.

Agreed, either that or he needs to do a course in google.

Either way, whatever your opinions are, I download Debian 5.0.3 last night and it really doesn't compare to Ubuntu. Just the general installer's layout and the lack of already-available utilities is really behind the times. Ubuntu is presented 10x better and I had a few troubles with drivers in Debian. Ubuntu did not present such troubles.

which is something that wouldn't have surprised you if you did some reading up on what the stable Lenny version is about. As a heads up, don't try Arch or Gentoo.

Yip, he would me much better suited to LFS.

Debian is not Ubuntu and it's not trying to be Ubuntu either so pointless comparing them.
