Decat'ing my car

Yep. It is a silencer like box. The insides look like a bee honeycomb made of ceramic, break all that ceramic out and refit box.

Had it done on Saturday... only cost R650.

Dunno if it's just the excitement of "ooh-I-did-summing-to-my-car" but it feels more responsive.

Will see if it fixes the dashboard faults... as it was intermittent, may take a while.

Did you not do the 76mm downpipe?

It hurts to read this.

Removing a CAT from a modern car does very little for performance.
Only on older cars (say, pre-2005) would you see a noticeable performance increase at the wheels.
Also depends on your make & model.

When de-CAT'ing you'd need to either re-MAP your ECU (for running without a CAT) or you'd need to get a dummy LAMBDA sensor for your specific car make & model.
The dummy LAMBDA sensor plugs into the ECU connector (where the CAT used to be) and continually reports to the ECU that the CAT is happy, thereby "lying" to the ECU.

It's a popular "upgrade" for boy-racers who own pre-2006 BMW (E46) 330's and M3's.

I have felt very little difference with my car, however the increase in kilowatts/torque is visible on paper, when doing a dyno

I doubt that "old turbo diesels" even had cat converters
Nobody cared "back then".

Only modern turbo diesels have cats, and not even all of them.
in general - diesels designed for 50ppm fuel do, diesels design NOT for 50ppm fuel do not.

Most TDs built in the EU since 1999 had cats to conform to Euro 3 emissions legislation, e.g., Disco TD5. That's what I meant by old, I should have clarified earlier :)

Modern TDs not only have cats, they also have DPFs to conform to Euro 4 and 5.

so you guys are saying that a decat and downpipe makes a big different in performance? even to a Honda S2000?

Yes, the S2000 has a high compression engine, you will see some gains, 3-5wkw perhaps, not as much as a turbo car would.
and it will sound better.... well louder.
The Type R sounds nice with a downpipe and de cat.

Interesting. could be a few reasons though.
Do you have a NA car? did you only do the de cat? Did you dyno it at the same place that removed the cat?/ they tend to be generous with their readings, customer "satisfaction" lol.

A down pipe and decat will really sooth out power delivery to the wheels... try a tank of 95 or 98 you at the coast... it should feel "better"

LOL, luckily we don't live in the EU.

I've actually never heard of anyone's car being checked for emissions in SA.

Last time I took my car to a panel beater they had a 2004-ish BMW M3 that was being de-cat'd.
Apparently quite a popular mod on those type of cars.

Yes its a 2.4i NA car,
Only the decat was done at powerflow exhaust.
Dyno was done a few months after at dynotech in brackenfell, capetown.
Yep im at the coast, a believe a full aftermarket freeflow system will smooth it out more, this includes a 57mm freeflow and header(branch).
