Decent area in CPT - 2021

A more off the wall alternative if getting a rental car is to find a place in Paarl.

Loads and loads of guest houses and B&B’s at reasonable prices and the city is less than an hour away.

Every decent wine farm is within easy reach and you’ll have a glorious peaceful time about it.

The earliest post is still the best. Town is super fun.

If you want to go to a winefarm, save up a bit more. Would I recommend doing more than one day of winefarming on your trip: no.

Not sure if you've picked dates but if here on the first Thursday of Feb then CT has a lekka big jol in and around Bree Street, sort of like a tradition. It's fun, lekka vibes.
 
Let me put it another way:
Staying centrally to save R100 on one or two of your Ubers is not worth it considering you will pay R60 more on all your other Ubers to get anywhere worth going.

It's just not financially efficient.

Kinda liking this idea. JHB to CPT for a couple days. Rent a car and drive to the Farms. Stay there for a bit. Drive back, a night in CPT before flying back.

You can get a Polo for R385/day from Hertz (did not look any further than that, certain to be cheaper options)

The other thing to consider is that the wine farms are farms - they are spread out all over, and you'd need a dedicated Uber driver to visit more than one, else you'd get dropped of and never get another Uber in the area... and you'd have to pay for each trip between farms if you did eventually get one.

Blouberg is also an option, it's not too far away from the city, wine farms are also pretty close by towards Durbanville and it's right on the beach. Just be prepared for that West Coast wind

Vrede en lus since their pricing is generally decent for good food, just a bit annoying that the wine farm and the restaurant is separate, you will pay more for wine in the restaurant, but it's still decently priced: https://www.vnl.co.za/ I like their wine generally, area is very nice and the wine tasting area is great.
Hillcrest is nice for the beer garden there with view over the city, food was okay, wine was okay.
Meerendal is also good, their wine is generally nice, but usually gets super crowded so haven't been there in years.
Avoid Nitida, was terrible food, service was meh and wine wasn't great while being pricey, actual building location makes no sense, restaurant is built at the foot of the hill basically with parking getting a better view at the top or with the nice trees at the bottom. Not sure what went through the owners head.
D'Aria had good food, think their blend was good, but could be mixing up the wine for them. Used to go there more often but life got in the way.
De Grendel was also good, haven't eaten there though, just remember them leaning towards the more expensive side, been a while since I've gone.

Then moving further out, Waterford the place was nice, they have a chocolate tasting, their wine was okay and they were a bit more expensive, but they have a really good desert wine, is a bit pricey though.
Vergelegen is also nice, quite scenic, can't remember what their food was like anymore though, since usually go to Morgenster.
Morgenster I used to frequent, their wine is good and I liked the area, they have a really nice picnic basket option.

These are just off the top of my head following routes generally, there are others I recognize when I see them, I'm bad with names.

A majority of the wine estates in Cape Town are good, just remember safety again, even at wine estates theft happens and we've had bag snatchers there, and I've had friends hijacked.

In Franshoek there is also the chocolate factory, and then there is a restaurant there that sells really good cheesecake (hope they managed to stay open).

Would have also suggested this, you can do e.g. Breakfast at on the rocks (sit outside if you can, inside echoes like mad, service and coffee is okay, but their pricing isn't bad and the view is nice).
