You can check out fastmail (https://www.fastmail.com) R90pm integrates nicely in 1password

If you want to pay only a once off you can have a look at simplelogin (or proton pass lifetime), it forwards the emails to your gmail/outlook.

If your domain is with cloudflare you can also have a look at their email forwarding stuff.

I see Absolute hosting does R40 for basic email hosting. I just need email using my domain for hosting on the play store etc.

Absolute hosting has more "ddos" and "downtime" than any other service provider.

Apparently protonmail is best.

I want to use my own domain mainly and want to add aliases that I can send and receive from. Who do you recommend? I tried the Google Workspace route but they keep wanting to bill me in euros at 30% or more the dollar advertised price and I honestly can't see value with them. I see others offering low costs of like R40 pm but only for the first year (godaddy). All I want is reliable email using my own domain and about 5 aliases.

Google Workspace bills South Africans in rands. Not sure where you get this Euro or dollar stuff from. I've been using Google Workspace for years now. You can't get more solid than that and it's worth every penny.

Have a look at our mail product (launched 2 months ago)- might be something there that could be of interest to you. Some nice features in the pro version - word processor, sheets, presentations, 50GB storage etc.

Besides that, control panel/web client is very google-like. So super easy. Mobile friendly too.

Proton Mail. I've found their spam protection is more effective than MS, Gmail etx and heaps better than cheap self hosted plans.

Been using Xneelo (formerly Hetzner) for many years, works well. (Own domain.) They've got a number of options. Local or Germany.

Specifics you'd have to research yourself as a friend handles all the email subscription needs for me. Only R100 per year for me on his server. I no longer use the domain itself, but could still continue with the email setup.
