hi guys,

not much of a gamer, but I want to start playing battlefield 2, looks like alot of fun.
current specs are : amd 2800+ , 1.3 gig ram & geforce 64 mx something., 192kb ADSL.
I probably need a new video card, I need something that can play the game decently, +- R1500 range. what do you guys suggest ?

Looked on take2.co.za, the game goes for R270 , but there’s no stock.
Any other online software shop in sa ??

thanks

AAAH ... You need:
- motherboard with a PCI Express x16 slot.
or
- motherboard with an AGP * 8 slot.

NVIDEA 6600GT is more than acceptable if you don't mind playing on 1024*768 resolution with everything set to medium.

You want some good detail - buy a NVIDEA 6800.

Try www.sybaritic.co.za.

See u online sometime ...

stay away from LE models... they are not really that great for the price at all.

AFAIK there is a SF server for BF2... though not many people on it...

processor and ram are fine, gfx card is needed, that 6800le or se or ge or something seems the best bang for buck for your price

Don't buy the expansion just yet ... wait bru. You've got a lot to learn. By the time you get to the expansion pack it'll be long forgotten. Besides - they're going to bring out BF2 addon packs like every month as well, which probably won't work with Special Forces...

how hard can it be ? point gun -> shoot -> they die :P

not really, ie, taking a rifle to a battle that has armour... not a good idea.

well ive got a 6800le and run everything on med with 4 x aa and it runs well
useless i paid 1000 rand for my 6800 le and it runs really well
remember its a 256 bit thing lol not 256 meg ram 256 something or other cant think of the name now

i had a 6600 128 meg card and it kicks that card one way
you should be fine

go to any incredible store will have
and dont buy the expansion cept if you really cool guns

What you need:

- New AMD 64 Motherboard (prefarbly PCI-E; you'll have to do that sooner or later)

- New CPU (3200+ or 3500+)

GFX Card: 6600GT

Look for prices at www.prophecy.co.za / www.computersonly.co.za

Neh CPU and MB not neccesary, AMD 2800 will handle it fine.
GFX side 6600gt is good, but dont forget about the Radeons they also good mine is like 2 years on and still kicks BF2's ass.

Wait a little bit longer for CPU and MB, because M2 socket will be out soon not worth it now.

apparently the 6800gt models runs on 16 pipelines, 6800le are downgraded to 8 pipelines through the drivers. you can unlock them with rivaturner programm. its better explained in the threads. think I'm getting a 6800le and see how far I get with the unlocking of the extra pipelines. thanks

Not much of a gamer(maybe three or fourth times a week), so investing in pc gear is a waste of money for me. amd2800+ more than enough for the work I do.

well the game will run fine for you with a new card, so just buy that and come enjoy!

Jumping on the wagon here:

Hardware:
  • I can't remember what cpu I have for the sec. 2.4gHZ sounds right.
  • ATI graphics cards 9500 series.
  • 512mB RAM
  • 512K adsl over radio network to lineout PC (roughly 43mps)
  • AWE64 sound I think could be later card not sure.

Software:
  • BF2 800x600, all settings low and no.
  • OS is XP
Will try get more details when at home; though I think theres enough here.

Prognosis:
  • I think my problem is memory. It's DDR 266 Dated?
Symptoms:
  • Load times are loooong. Long enough to make a cup of tea. Keep on arriving in time to see the last flag taken.
  • Have a good 2 minutes of spastic lag at the beginning of a new map and good deal more spasms when going into areas of the map not yet explored.
