decent specs for battlefield

an extra 512MB of RAM would do wonders, i think you have DDR333 with your Pentium PC?

you can get DDR400 since DDR266 is rare nowadays and it will run in your PC, though the best would be to get two DDR400 modules to keep them identical.

lol well said it dont matter whether its 133 or 266 or 400

512 is not enough
no matter if it was 1000000000

add more ram

512K adsl over radio network to lineout PC (roughly 43mps)
explain this to me plz?

The 512 adsl is at boets house. We run a radio network between the homes it runs at 43ms odd. My internet link is thus through the boets PC via this network.

LOL, wouldn't want them to get lonely. I thought the pins were different, my motherboard is DDR1 I don't think it'll take DDR2.

Definitely not enough ram Drusky. An extra 512 would make the world of a difference. An extra 1gig - even better!

I cant say that the 9500 is all that great either, sorry :(

at least with the details level a tad low he can spot snipers in the grass with much ease than us HIGH detail junkies! :p

YEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
/Drusky busts into BF2 all shiny and new... well not really.

No more savage LAAAAAG. Thank you Darnit, DRR400 ram two 512 chips... luverly. Yes the memory is essential. Will keep graphics low, all those shadows freak me out. Maybe up resolution to 1000 though.

Loading times vastly improved.. :sigh: sooo happy, love is radiating from the clouds :D

Well i dunno hey.
I had 1GB of ram, and then one of my sticks died. Now im at 512, its not that bad really just loading times...
Its DDR400

Ja but when one of my chips died I was left with 512
It was DDR266, it sucked...

My father is sitting with an even older 512mB chip and a pre 9500 ATI card. He reminds me of that nrg_wp comic:
http://home.telkomsa.net/nrg/comic9.jpg

Except he's not a noob. In fact if he upgraded I think he'd become seriaasly dangerous.

guys whether your ram is ddr amillion if you have not got enough of it your gonna suffa

the speed difference between 266 and 400 is minimal

a rig with 2 gigs pc 133 and 1 gigs 400 wont be that much faster but it will be faster

If thats true then rB should suffer the same symptoms that I had. But he doesn't, so maybe GFX card difference helps. Whats your cpu speed rB?

Neh its a Oldish machine, its being replaced next month so i am not bothering to get more ram for it.
Its a AMD 2800, with a radeon 9600xt 256.
plays bf2 1024*768 med-high with 2xAA, get decent frame rates too!:p

I agree with Dusky.. jeez, Dusky is everywhere tonight

I would bet that 1 gig ddr 400 would be much faster than 2 4 or 8 gigs of 133... 133 is less than half the speed of 400... its great and all that u have x amount of 133 ram but it is useless if u can't get to it fast enough...

But hey if u want to have lots of slow ram and think its better then having less faster ram, then go ahead, don't cry when u get killed cuz the PC was stuttering cuz of slow ram.... :D

so 2 gigs of 133 would load bf 2 and your pc would run slower than 512 ddr 400

come on you cant be serious?

That sounds "sort of" right.

The first memory hurdle is "paging" - you have to have enough RAM to prevent Windows having to put stuff that should be in memory on the harddrive. For BF2 that limit is between 512Mb and 1Gb RAM - hence the huge step up at 1Gb. Here 1Gb of 133 is going to potentially be more useful than 512Mb DDR400.

Secondly, once everythings in memory ie 1Gb+ then the numbers count more. DDR400 will get stuff in and out of RAM 3 times faster than PC133. It makes a huge difference, believe it.

The game has to manipulate information about millions of polygons, pixels and physics algorythms a second, it can't store that all on the chip, it's got to constantly stream into and out of the memory.
