When playing BF2 and using "renderer.drawFps 1" I see "15/66" in the top left of my screen. Gameplay is full of stutters. Full server 48 players)

Settings : 1280x1024 , only 3 on high (1st three), all other medium , No AA.

Surely with my system I should be getting many more frames per second?

I have downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia's site "81.98" as well as for my motherboard.

If I play on an empty server the framerate increases to about 40, but this is still pretty low for the system?

ADSL connection is 384 (Webafrica) My ping never goes above 25.

Temp for my card's GPU is about 54 degrees centigrade after a couple of hours playing.

Any advice/ideas much appreciated.

set the affinity to 1 CPU only, there are some problems with dual core processes and BF2.

this is very worrying for me.
CPU, MB, RAM, GFX identical on the PC im about to buy:(

OK just tried setting affinity to cpu 0 only and then to cpu 1 only, makes no difference.

BF is the only game I have been playing lately. Tried Far Cry just now with very high settings and my PC seem to cope ok
(framerate of 50+ inside and a constant 30 outside)

FORMAT C: - is this my only option?

Seems so, unless you have an extra drive that you can maybe use to install windows on, just to see whether its the windows installation.

Where are the good old days of DOS when you just run and EXE/BAT file and the game opens before you can blink.. no drivers required.. sigh.. :)

no format as a last resort! the worst feeling to have is when you format and sit with the headache of re-installing everything only to realise that you getting the same problems. could be something as simple as cleaning up your registry, normally errors within the registry are the main cause of system slowdowns and random crashes.

get an app called registry mechanic to do this, and if this still fails to solve the problem then go into your bios and check that your machine is not set to fail-safe settings. also check things like whether the memory frequency is the correct value for the type of ram that you running or whether the cpu speed is correct. as a last resort once you've tried everything else then only reformat

i would reinstall everything windows bf 2 everything

also download extreme g drivers

i had this problem with bf 2

amd 3200 2 gig ram 6800 le gigabyte k8ns

check on your mb for something called fast writes and turn it off
also set your aperture size to as high as it will go should be 512 or 256

get a defrag program and dfrag once a week

another thing is go buy a fan open the side of your gaming bomb and make the fan blow into your case when playing bf 2 could be an overheating problem

i change my vga card to legend 6600 gt and it run very well now

i would start off with my 6800 le at around 40/50 frames within an hour i would under 25 game would run like crap

How does it perform if you set the graphics detail level to low. I had problems with BF2 that for single player I could easily play with it set to high, but for online play I for some reason have to set it to low, otherwise it is a slide show. And to be honest, I think one can see better what is going on at the low level.

well when my bf 2 was running like **** i set to it to 800 x 600 everything low no AA same story didnt help

Yes, one just has to love EA about all this stuff. There is always something that does not seem to work in BF2. At least with the latest patch I can set the resolution again to match my strange screen. The blurry effect of the LCD interpolation was driving me crazy.

Try loading the Nvidia 77-series driver. There is a known bug with the dual-core support in the 80-series Nvidia drivers, and no decent workaround yet.

Thanks foe all the advice! I will try most over the weekend.
Just out of interest I tried to with sttings as high as possible and I got 15-23 frames a second.

Next I tried with low settings and I got 25-35 frames a second.

Server had about 12 players.

Also defrag your hardrive - I had endless stuttering with FEAR until I got hold of Diskeeper and defrag'd my drive
