Deciding on my new tv....

Now, first I want to know, I can get a hd ready samsung for R9000(cant remember the model. Game here has a The samsung ps50c550 for R 11000 (full HD).

I want to get a normal dstv decoder, not high def pvr, and I will watch mainly dvd's, not blu ray. Will it be worth it to get a full hd, or will hd ready suite my needs?

I have a lg dvd player, and on the player it says Full HD Upscaling. What does that mean? What will it do on either a hd ready tv, and on a full hd tv?

On the other hand it can be possible to get a bluray player this year. If I have have only a hd ready tv, what will it do on that?

So you can see I dont exactly understand the terms, what they mean.

Any help?
 
I forgot, I saw a 55" logic full hd lcd at Game today, I the picture quality was quite impressive. I am a samsung fan, but what are your opinions on logic?
 
And just because I never had tv or tv license before, I must show tv license, but if I get dstv, is tv license still needed?
 
Tell me if I have this right...you want to spend R9 000 to R 11 000 on a tv but you don't want to pay R23 @ month for a TV licence....do I have that right?
 
No, just want to know if I need it, must I have a tv license too, or can I just get dstv?
 
If you get a TV you need a TV license, I can't remember Mutlichoice ever asking me for my license bit I guess they can check these things.

I have never been asked for a licence for a video recorder or TV card, but the seller should ask for one according to the Law.
 
Okay I get it, I need a license, and will get it. Now on the TV's again. I just went to get a dvd, walked past a audio corporation store, and there was a Hitatchi HD ready (LCD or Plasma, couldn't see), looked like a 42". I couldn't believe the picture quality, so I must say I wonder if full hd is really a must?

Stay away from LCD.

The answer:

Samsung PS50C430 plasma. Probably the one you saw for R9000. You should be able to pick it up for a bit less if you scout around. If it's too big, get the PS42C430 at R5700ish. These are tried/tested/trusted plasmas and will blow similarly-priced LCD out the water. With the sources you will be playing (SD TV/DVD), they will blow high end LCDs out the water, too.

About 10 forumites have bought the above models in December. Thank me later. ;)

Eish man...they should change your title to resident plasma lover :D Same can be done for Dolby, just replace plasma with LCD :p

Thats said, how many of you have seen 55 " tv being advertised...? The biggest that I've seen are the 50" ones....

Either way, it remains fact that plasma is superior for sport/TV. ;) With other sources, the difference is much less, and LCD manages to even it out...

Yeah, Game/Makro don't seem go go bigger than 50" in plasma. You'd have luck if you went to a store that focusses specifically on home entertainment.

True. The only problem is that it becomes a LOT more difficult to decide when you throw gaming into the mix.

With burn-in being a thing of the past, I'd have to disagree on it being a LOT more difficult, unless the gamer can't handle at worst a few minutes of image retention after gaming for several hours with static console/health/ammo/mana bars etc.. I'm not a console gamer, but many forumites regard gaming better on plasma - it would make sense, since plasma as a tech has deeper blacks & better colours, and of course its much faster response time. :)

Hmmm, well I'll have to have a very good look into it. Their affordability of course is great and other than the samsungs the panasonic plasma's have been getting great reviews it just all depends what the guys who "specialize" in these tv's feel like charging for them. Well in a month or so I will be able to shop till my wife drops :D
