Decimation of smaller parties

I actually like it that there are smaller parties and I think it is a nice idea that a certain amount of votes get you a seat in parliament this way a party can have their voice and opinion heard in parliament.

It is a good thing. Which is why I would have loved a libertarian voice in Parliament to counter all the state-heavy parties.

Electronic voting is in no way perfect. Ireland removed their machines. US companies have been accused of fraud and the Netherlands revoked the licences in half the machines.

Also, voting from your phone or computer should never be allowed. That would link your vote to an ip, losing its anonymity.

Also how do you stop someone voting twice from their smartphone or PC? - I'd only be okay with electronic voting if it were at designated stations, where you need your fingerprint to caste the vote.

I was also wondering why digital isn't a reality.
It would solve all this *** related to ballot boxes being found in rivers and what not.

Paper ballots can end up in rivers, but digital ones can end up in the Grand Abyss of /dev/null, or multiplied by uninitialized memory offsets...by my own personal measure, bank ATMs only work 75% of the time, how are compute-based voting systems ever going to be vaguely reliable? Not by 'securing' the voting machines, but by 'securing' the people.

Say NO to digital voting. Reject e-Government. Insist on old-school (non-automated) face-to-face interaction with your prison wardens.

Interesting stat, I'm sure all the banks would be very upset that there required SLA's on ATM are not even vaguely being met.

It is saddening that the minority parties are being sidelined by the voters, but it's an unfortunate side effect of having a majority party in what is a plurality-inspired electoral system. When the ANC finally starts losing its majority I'd expect service delivery and all other governmental issues to mostly fly out the window - with people voting along ideological lines as they should.

I think a lot of people will drop the bigger parties when that happens. Many people only vote for the DA because they are the best opposition and not because they have liberal values.
