Hi.

Does anyone know how you should declare dividends from REITs on your efiling ? Is it just another income entry ? Any caveats ?

For now the divided can be declared under code 4214 (other income) and if a description is required then "income from REIT" should suffice.

I understand that the ITR12 will be enhanced later this year to cater for a specific income code relevant to REITs dividends.

From the Comprehensive Guide to completing the ITR12 return (http://www.sars.gov.za/AllDocs/OpsDocs/Guides/IT-AE-36-G05%20-%20Comprehensive%20Guide%20to%20the%20ITR12%20Return%20for%20Individuals%20-%20External%20Guide.pdf

If you received dividends distributed by a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT),
the amount will be reflected next to source code 4238 on the IT3(b) certificate
issued to you by the REIT.

On your ITR12 return, insert this amount next to source code 4214 and in the
description field insert the description as “‘income from a REIT”.

Note: If you are married out of community of property, insert the total amount
received from the REIT. If you are married in community of property, only insert
50% of the total amount received from the REIT.
