Decode Drivers Licence Barcode

Your picture and details are stored in eNatis.

The card just contains your unique identifier. Simple, really :)

Dead wrong

http://www.bartrans.co.za/dls.php

Each license contains a barcode and although heavily encrypted, the information contained therein including the holder's names, ID Number, date of birth, gender, license restrictions, validity period etc. can all be captured and used in a myriad of ways to enhance current I.T. solutions. Even the picture of the holder as represented on the front of the card is embedded in the barcode! This makes it near impossible to create cards that are fraudulent and thus offers immense value to sectors such as car & trailer rental, financial services, security & events management, equipment hire and many other industries where proof of identification is mandated. Bartrans offers a composite solution to end users or just the software development kit and decryption licenses along with the relevant hardware to systems integrators and software developers.

Pls share the name of the barcode font?

You require a key to decrypt the information on the barcode. I currently, besides for me, know of only 2 other members here on MyBB who has this information and are capable for decrypting the info. However, this information cannot be given out.

LOL cool dude:p

Where to get the decryption key for the License disk barcode?

Hi

Please would you tell me where I could apply to get the decrypt key for the drivers license disk.

Hi

Please would you tell me where I could apply to get the decrypt key for the drivers license disk.

I know this is maybe a tad late, but a company i used to work for a couple of years ago wrote a decrypter for the barcode that they use on most devices i have seen. the company is called Face Technologies, so you can try them.

Any idea what encryption scheme is being used?

If you happen to come across the decryption key, would it be legal to use? I don't see any issue, since all the info is printed in plain text anyway. It could however see someone having issues with that, e.g. because it can help with counterfeiting drivers licenses.

reviving an old thread here

Did anyone ever figure out what encryption is used on the PDF417 data?

I'm writing an android app and would love to decode this realtime without API calls just to decrypt data

Hi Zeely,
I'm interested to hear about these encryption keys - are you willing to share?

Thanks,

Mudbream

How's that app coming along?

Interesting.. seems like a fun project :D wonder what u need to get access the the decrypt keys

House had the key, he is banned now, he mentioned that 2 other users on here have it but they cant make it publicly known.

No clientside app then :P

My drivers got scanned when entering a business park earlier so you can buy the readers it seems.

Has anyone got more info on this? I have contacted various government departments trying to get access to this key. I cannot see how some companies just magically have access to the key.

froot seems to have the key or know someone who does.

The local companies that have the key probably has it because they knew someone sometime somewhere - which is how business is conducted in Africa. I agree that it is just machine reading of text that is printed anyway, so no privacy issues. I also dont see why it is a security risk for someone being able to "produce" fake licenses. It is very rare if ever that you will be in a roadblock or situation where the barcode is scanned for police purposes. If you create a fake license, you only need to get the text right and put any crap barcode on there and scratch the barcode area a bit. In that case police will blame scratch or machine as cause for not being able to read the barcode and revert back to what is printed. So why cant we just all have the key and make South Africa more efficient / productive and help the economy, or is this just another opportunity to collect some bribes for keys?

I am looking for the key, but quite happy to reference a library that is licensed at a reasonable cost. I am willing to pay. However the local companies either dont license a library (Linux ARM please I dont want .sNErT) or they want to know where, how and who you will use it. So if anyone can sell me a license please PM.

SA Drivers License Decoding

I work for a company that has the IP & keys to decode the South African drivers License barcode.

I used to work for the company that designed those license scanners they use at security complexes. The IP for those scanners was sold to exid.co.za when the company closed down.

As far as I know the encoding was designed by a French firm contracted to a South African place that since went out of business, or at least has been transferred to someone else. The company that did the image compression library has also disappeared.

The barcode contains all the text fields that are printed on the card as well as a very low quality mugshot image compressed with a fancy wavelet encoder (Summus WI).
The encryption is sort of RSA512, but implemented weirdly. The private keys are held by the people who make the cards and a few people have the public keys, mostly because they know someone who knew someone.

So basically there are a few people around who have the code and the keys, but I doubt there'd be any official channel to request them though anymore.
