Decode Drivers Licence Barcode

Prevent fraud?? Eh?

Anyway I just downloaded the app, reverse engineer and tada rsa key. Will see if I can throw together the iOS barcode reader with zxing lib and test sometime this weekend

good luck with that.

even if you have the decrypt keys, the decrypt sequence is so arbitrary, its essentially impossible to figure out.

then once you have decrypted the data, you need to figure out what exactly is even stored in the barcode.

then once you have figured out what is stored in the barcode, you need to figure out how to render the drivers license image stored in the barcode.

unless you have actual inside info, i'm willing to put money down that you wont actually get it right.

trust me - its far cheaper just to buy a license to do it :)

A iOS version would be awesome

zeely, how long does th play store take to update? the current version still shows feb

I'm busy reverse engineering the summus wavelet image renderer. once that is done I can move the image rendering server side and then release an ios version.

its a bit of a guess how long play store takes to update. in my experience normally a few hours

awesome, will check it tonight and see

thanks :)

I see the app updated, but still only get a black screen, it's as if the camera isn't coming on

Just getting a black screen without camera image displaying.
Ya I just installed it and also getting the same issue.

EDIT: I went into the app settings in my Application Manager and had to manually add permission for the app to use the camera.

Gave it permission for contacts and storage as well and it scans successfully but then the app crashes. I've sent feedback using the Google feedback option that appears after the app crashes.

Now what the hell is supposed to happen afterwards? I scan my license and nothing...

see what happens when you release a POC that isnt ready for release. julle almal se moer for making me work on a friday :crylaugh:

I've noticed on the backend that some of the scans with the latest version of the app ARENT decoding the image, only the text data in the barcode.

I need to look into why the drivers image isnt being decoded

The flow of the app is as follows

A) entrance
- scan drivers license
- scan car disk
- enter details of visitor and resident in complex being visited, hit submit

at this point an entry on the back end is created with an "in date"

B) exit
- scan drivers license
- scan car disk
- confirm exit

at this point an entry on the back end is created with an "out date"

the reporting opportunities are quite interesting in that an estate can do verified tracking of drivers and vehicles in and out, date and time stamped, etc

Are you sure this level of personal data can be collected legally, in terms of the POPI Act, once implemented.

sure

popi act states you must take reasonable precautions to prevent your customers data being unlawfully accessed.

This is a lot more secure than an underpaid security guard and a clipboard

It also says that you're not allowed to collect any information that you don't need, and that you must provide the subject with an unambiguous list of exactly what you intend to do with the information. There is also a provision for any subject to demand that you delete (or sanitize) all information that you hold on them.

What component do you use to read that barcode through the camera? I've looked at Manatee Works and Microblink

mikroblink is the only one i've found that reliably can read the "malformed" drivers license pdf417

The Microblink one is moer expensive though. I see you Manatee's demo app works well to read the drivers license

hmmm on what camera spec? It didnt like my 5mp moto x camera. microblink was the only one i could get working.

If you've got a higher spec camera it might be worth checking google vision api out - they have a native barcode reader
