Dedicated physx card

Wow this discussion is gettin out of hand. The original question is if my GT240 will improve it by much or if It will be better to get the GTX250 or rather go for a GTX470 that will cost me about R3300 and use my GTX280 as physx card. But hen again I don't play that much games

It's a good discussion though. :)

But yes as for your original question, I still do not think it's worthwhile buying an extra card just for PhysX. Especially if you don't play games that often. My opinion is still to wait. You can play games fine for now and even though a GTX470 will give an improvement I doubt whether it's worthwhile upgrading a GTX280 just yet.

Thanks man. I think I will keep my gtx280 and wait for the next gen ATI or Nvidia

In the mafia II demo, when I enable PhysX on medium it actually runs fine for a minute or 2 but as soon people start shooting and there's lots of particles etc, then it just slows down incrementally until it's unplayable. Almost like the particles don't get removed from memory or something. Sorry I know nothing about developing so I don't know if that makes sense.. Just sucks that I cannot even turn it on medium. Wouldn't mind a slightly less FPS count, but the fact that it becomes unplayable after a few minutes really sucks and makes you think about getting a flippin NVIDIA card just so you can enable that feature..lame :/

 I'm an NVIDIA fanboi, personally. Even if I were given the totally ub3rest ATi card, I'd sell it to get an NVIDIA card. Cost of a few FPS for something I consider more reliable and with more features I actually want? Any day. Oh, and I can run Mafia II on my GTX 260 216SP at high with physx at high and it's gooooorgeous. I fscking love the physx on the rain jacket coat  Runs at a decent 25fps in teh fiery gunfights :)

Eish..If I turn off PhysX mine runs at MIN: 45 AVG: 60 and MAX: 145

Now if ATI would just get their own PhysX... :(

Yes, the raincoat if @#*!!@ awesome!! Too bad I won't get to play with it..
