Dedicated Bandwidth and Line

This has probably been discussed before, but all my searches have been fruitless.

I would like to ascertain as to whether a company can setup their own "broadband line" that is soley for their use internationally.

An example would be a company that wants to transfer large files to another company in another country without have to make use of a postal service or your standard courier companies, but do everything online.

Obviously it would entail have a huge or no cap and a fair amount of bandwidth.

How would one go about putting something like that together in this country given our broadband restrictions thanks to Telscum.

Thank you PRYWBPCCL. What would we do without you. :p

Still hasn't answered my question though. ;)

Very simple : dedicated Diginet care of Teleskum incorporated. As long as you have the Moola . . .

Alternatively you could speak to one of the VANS (MWeb, IS etc) or Telskum and try set up an IP VPN over ADSL.

IS BusinessDSL - static IP no cap, R1350 / month. 512kb all the way.
Terrible pings though, but brilliant for downloads / uploads.

Oh, and I assume it will be within the AUP.

That's not dedicated though. The only route to getting dedicated interntional bandwidth would be by buying a Committed Information Rate international leased line, looking at about R7,000 per 64k. Broadband is not dedicated in any respect I'm afraid. (That's why it's cheap)

Pings? AUP??? It's all Greek! :D

It will not be used for internet etc, but purely to send files, folders and documents to specific companies. Some of the files etc are extremely big, hence the need for no cap and as fast as possible.

Would 512kb be sufficient? Telscum do not (from what I understand) have a faster connection. Am I wrong?

Where would I find a company offering this type of service?

What you are looking at is an international private switched circuit. Telskum will provide it (and can go higher than 512kb) but it is NOT going to be cheap. How big are these files? Prob more cost effective to buy five uncapped ADSL lines or something and VPN it over the 'net.

What service that Telscum provides can be construed as cheap?

Range between 10 megs to over 700 meg (possible bigger).

Your last option has confused me as how will 5 accounts help in that each will only be 512kb. Are you saying that you can combine them to give you a 2.5gig BW?

What is your daily or monthly estimated traffic for sending the files? Basically, the size times the number of files.. on average..

A 256k link will give you about 70GB each way per month, or a little more than 2GB per day..

If you go the dedicated route, you will be spending a fortune.. It would make better sense to install a Cisco PIX 501 or similar on each end and do a VPN to each of the companies you send the files to.. Optionally you could send them once to a server colocated overseas and then run a script to distribute them to the destination..

A lot will depend on the amount of BW you need..

700 meg? Not too bad. I was expecting you to say 20GB files! (And even then, 20GB on a 512kb connection is around 3 days).

As for the 5 lines mentioned earlier, if you break the file up into 5 "bits", and transmit them one "bit" per line, you will get 2,5 odd meg.
