A lot of the sellers have no idea what they're selling, just jumping on the bandwagon with the current electricity crisis. I had a guy tell me last week that the inverter I was looking at takes 3 solar panels, he proceeded to show me that where you plug them in, 1 in the pv slot, 1 in the ac slot and 1 in the battery slot. Heaven help the consumers that just trust what the salesman tells them.

Holy moly... haha

not much options that I can see. more expensive most likely. 4x4 centres and most battery places. need a day to do a bit of a mini tour. ill update then. the Dixon battery looks like a possibility. asked the rep for the specsheet and the recommended DOD. im still waiting. they quick to tell you to buy it but when you ask a question they seem to ignore you.

I posted the specs earlier in this thread. If you search the 4x4community forums there is a spec sheet uploaded there as well from one of the resellers.

What did you end up buying?
Still haven't bought. I have also contacted prostar which have lead acid gel batteries for R2200 a pop. May very well end up going for those. It's difficult hey I won't lie. Cycles for their gel batteries are 1100 at 50%DOD and 400 at 100% DOD.

Yeah, tell me about it! I keep thinking that it may be worth it to go for the more expensive ones now that will last longer, then I go back to what if something else happens that they don't last as long as they're supposed to. I mean in some instances it would probably be cheaper to replace a "cheap" battery 3 times rather than buy 1 that should, theoretically, last 3 times as long.

using a reference from earlier in this thread,Deltec quoted me R3581 for a 6CNFJ (120ah). 628 cycles at 100%DOD and ~2800 cycles at 50%DOD, thus more than double the performance for only 60% more. But yes - the budget and eskom's stability is two very contradicting factors :/

According to the datasheet, it is only 1500-1800 cycles at 50%, barely 2800 at 20%. The Ceil gel cells do better than that...

Another thing to note on the datasheet is the final discharge voltage, it is much lower for higher currents than gell cells, and would cause a big headache with most inverters...

They emailed me this data sheet, which shows different spec's?
View attachment Lead Crystal Battery 6-CNFJ-120 (1).pdf

another interesting thing is the major difference temperature makes )(about 800 cycles less from 20 degrees down to 40 degrees).thus keeping it in a cold area is not a bad idea. maybe a garage rather than inside the house? can always use an extension lead to get the power to where it is supposed to go.

can you please show me a screenshot for the final discharge voltage? -just when i thought batteries cant get more complicated than what i was taught at school ages ago :p -

I just googled for a datasheet:
http://deltecpower.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Deltec-Lead-Crystal-Batteries.pdf

The one you posted looks dramatically different, though. Does not inspire much confidence.
The cell voltage is also in your datasheet, second page left top.

The temperature cycles in a garage is more detrimental to the battery life. It goes up quite a lot after you park your car.

Ok, looking at your datasheet, it should work on most inverters. As long as you can set the final charge and float voltage of the charger. For maximum life, you should have a charger that allows temperature compensation.

Thank you. Appreciate the guidance. Will have to compare stats with other batteries before deciding. Will be nice if we can get the OP updated with recommended batteries - eg something that shows the price paid versus ah and cycles obtained?

Can someone please un-confuse me? I see solar places are selling the Royal 1150K 105AH battery as a solar battery or a deep cycle battery.

What confuses me is that on the battery is this warning sign: “This battery is only for starting engine. Do not apply this product for other uses.”

What am I missing or can it be used for solar systems?

My first set of batteries were also sold to me as solar batteries. Only to later on realise that I was conned and sold shyte lead calcium batteries with 250 cycle life.

Yeah, there's a huge difference between AGM and normal flooded lead-acids. AGM and lead-crystals are pretty much in a league of their own...

Does anyone know of any potential importers or local manufacturers for LiFePo4 or similar batteries?
All I've found so far is http://www.freedomwon.co.za/freedomcorprice.html whose systems are a bit on the large size.

Are you looking to buy? The company I use is incorporating lithium charging on their inverters together with lead acid so the consumer can opt to use both. I had ordered me one of these inverters with 4 x 12v100ah LiFePO4 batteries. ETD is 2 months.

Yes, I'm looking for about 200ah at 24v - so basically exactly as you have above.
Which company and why so long, are you importing?
