Defrost Meat in Max 8 Minutes

As stated I only buy fresh meat, freshly ground mincemeat, fresh chicken or wors and biltong.

Nothing ever in frozen packs, not even chicken any-more!

We freeze it ourselves when required but mostly we buy fresh produce as we need daily!

Which was frozen and defrosted for your convenience at the store. Well, the majority of it at least.

I also freeze as necessary from fresh, where I can get it...

Now I'm wondering which is cheaper between the microwave defrosting for ~15 minutes and leaving the water running for... how long would the running water trick take to defrost a full chicken?

Great. Now you've scared away half of MyBB, and confused most of the rest. :D

:D

Depends on the size of the chicken, but around 2 to 3 hours.

But remember that all you need is a light trickle, not the tap wide open...I've currently got 2kg of chicken breasts defrosting in the sink with the cold water trick. I put it in about 15 minutes ago. I'll let you know when it's defrosted.

But my chicken breasts are flat, as opposed to a round bird.

When it comes to birds, the best bet is to simply chuck it in a bucket of coldish water and replace the water every hour. You'll see this trick pop up time and time again on American food forums over thanksgiving turkey season...

I presume having an abattoir close to town makes the difference? As I stated I have never seen frozen carcasses at the butchery I frequent. Anyway I am sure you know what I meant.

I am very more interested in your comment off "freezing meat incorrectly". I am really interested in your opinion on that!

 What is there to be confused about? It's science. You boil the ice cubes, run them under some tap water and then use them to agitate the meat outside the microwave. Walla! Perfectly defrosted, Botulism free meat!

Laws of thermodynamics

Yes, as with all butcheries, their freezers are at the back...

WRT freezing meat, I'll let the Food Network show you how -

It's all about how you prep your perishables for freezing.

Also remember that not all "fresh" food items are actually fresh, as I pointed out, and it often pays to buy frozen instead of fresh. Alton Brown explains why in this video:

He's having a subtle dig at a certain subset of the mybb membership. Think about it a little deeper...;)

Freezers or cold rooms?

The uploader has not made this video available in your country.

Afrihost mobile? Dammit!

Freezers or cold rooms?

Both, but they certainly use freezers. Walk-in freezers, to be precise. Do you honestly think that butcheries have the capability to forecast their sales of every single product to such a degree as to prevent spoilage? Nope, they still freeze stuff.

Some of it might be fresh, but you need to ask your butcher and he needs to be a helluvan honest bloke...

Well for one, you can't freeze meat in a oven.

:wtf: You seriously need to start questioning your sources of information. I mean c'mon dude, what do you take me for...

Oh good God I think I might ... umm, nevermind. I'll just stick to the basics of science and other religious beliefs for now. One evolutionary step at a time.

I read the rest of your post now. I only got to the confusion part and rolled my eyes...:o

Just nip down to the local SPAR and grab a tjoppie. If you're blindsided by an unplanned braai after ther SPAR's closed for the day you're likely drunk already. Just light a fire and keep on drinking. :D

:D Hahaha, drunk people always want to make a plan if they want to do something.... :D
