Hi guys

Bit of a request here, but is anyone who owns this specific (and fairly popular) model of oven able to take a picture/video of the wiring config at the back of their oven (mains to light/elements/switches etc), or even able to draw up a wiring diagram? I unfortunately can't find this specific model's diagram online.

I had a dodgy selector switch replaced by as dodgy an electrician who left me poorer with a non working switch and spliced/merged wires at the back of my oven. I have a new switch from Defy and just need to confirm the wire setup at the back behind the panel.

as an appy i had to service the factories kitchen appliances .i built up an intense hatred towards any kitchen appliance .
 
A few pics might help. Have you got hold of Defy directly? They are pretty helpful with this sort of issue. Forget most local sparkies. They hate working on appliances as you see above.

Dropped Defy an email earlier today. Holding thumbs they can help! Yeah literally just need a picture or two of someone's setup.

No luck here. They say "we unfortunately do not supply wiring diagrams"

I must say I am surprised - never had an issue with DEFY in PTA west about support. So we are back to some pics, that might help guide you.

A pic of the replacement part would be a start. The problem is asking someone with a stove like this is get you a pic of their one will mean uninstalling a working appliance, which very few will be prepared to do.

Try looking for info on the replacement part instead of the stove itself. What is the part number?

Well, just a pic of the wires with the back panel removed. Basically a numpty of an electrician messed up the wiring at the back, I just want to put it back to how it was before.

Yep, super basic. It's just not my forte (I'm a software guy) so just don't want to break it further. I'll post a pic in the morning of what it looks like currently and you'll see what I'm talking about :D
 
So let's summarise what has happened until now:

The oven stopped working. A dodgy electrician saw that it was a burnt-out switch.

Unbeknownst to me, he swapped it out for a 4-position selector switch (it was a 6-position selector). So in order to make that work, he split and spliced wires in the back. See the attached picture for that. Disappeared with my money and blocked me when I realised it wasn't fully working.

So now I ordered a 6-position selector switch from Defy (see attached pic), hoping to just plug and play it but then realised I'm short a wire or two because of what the electrician did. I'm now hoping to be able to just rewire the back to what it was before so that I can just simply plug in my switch.

I should add that last week I called Claremont Appliances hoping to just have a pro sort it out - but he rocked up and said oh no he needs a wiring diagram to know what to do. And then charged me R695 for that useless bit of info.

Not an electrical guy myself. But it looks like your splice points that you will have to undo are under the red and black insulation tape sections.

Hope you come right without being taken for a ride again.

Wtf did he do. My markings : Red is your main element, not sure what blue is, could be another element or warmer draw ( maybe your grill element if your elements are top mounted not floor mounted ), green I suspect is your oven bulb. You also have a serious problem on the red/blue splice, you can see its darkening the cord behind it, thats a short waiting to happen.

Thanks for these. I had contacted MacSpares for a possible diagram of my model, but unfortunately nothing closer than that particular diagram.

Will check out the other two links...

Yea it's a mystery how this guy calls himself an electrician (let alone one that specialises in ovens). Yea, there is a top element and a bottom element with the bulb on the right. Not sure where the brown comes from as I haven't used the oven since he rewired it. Just been using the plates that were untouched.

I had a look at one in the shop this afternoon, and there are 3 elements, a grill element, a top and bottom bake element, which matches the diagram already posted. So you should be able to trace the wires fairly easily.

Start with the neutral connections and get them out of the way first as these were probably not tampered with. Suggest you mark them somehow with a black pen or some black tape.

Then find the oven light live cable and get that on the correct connection on the selector - that will identify at least one of the 6 connections.

Next, find the pilot light cable - they would be the one dissapearing into the harness going to the top, one of them seem lookalike it is yellow. That will help ID which terminals on the selector switch it should be wired to.

Separate out the grill element next and get that connected to terminal 6 on the selector together with the pilot light cable for the grill element.
Check from the inside of the oven which is the grill element.
 
Are you sure about the DSS512? Is it not DSS 612? The 6 and 7 series are all the same just the 6 series has fewer features (no thermofan etc)
