My work laptop battery worked yesterday,2hours standby. Now this morning i switched the e6410 latitude on and the amber light is flashing fast. The battery led blue lights are all on and when i push the button 1,3,5 light flashes 3 times.

I took the battery out and all the led lights are still on.What does this mean, cant be the battery is faulty as this is not possible.

How can i reset the battery or drain it completely. Also windows 8 is telling the battery is 98% but not charging.

I have has a Dell laptop for about 5 years now. Replaced the battery once before and now it's giving me issues like you are having again. It happens when the battery is reaching the end of it's life. It can still last for ages but you will find that the capacity to drop down to a few minutes at the most... Not a life altering issue however if you need the battery capacity consider replacing it...

Pm me if you want a good price on a new / generic one!

Ok this is the strange part, the baTTERY was running normal, battery life 2H30mins everyday last week,The other night i shut down the pc,The next morning the battery is now finished,This cannot be as i refuse to see this as a end of life cycle.Surely one would notice the drastic time decrease in uptime..:D

I mean really 2 hours a day on battery power then suddenly its finished...lol.Maybe i should deplete the battery by connectiong a bulb to it,It could be out of sync you know

Yah i don't know hey... Does sound weird! But to be honest i remember the last time this happened i got prompts from windows about the battery needing to be replaced... Maybe they rig them :)

Not much of a battery expert either but I do recall that completely discharging a l-ion battery is really bad...

http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five-tips-for-extending-lithium-ion-battery-life/289/

"Unlike NiCad batteries, lithium-ion batteries do not have a charge memory. That means deep-discharge cycles are not required. In fact, it’s better for the battery to use partial-discharge cycles. [...] If a lithium-ion battery is discharged below 2.5 volts per cell, a safety circuit built into the battery opens and the battery appears to be dead. The original charger will be of no use. Only battery analyzers with the boost function have a chance of recharging the battery."

Good luck!

@dablakmark8: I am also looking for a replacement battery for my Latitude 6410. My current battery only lasts between 30 to 45 minutes but it does not report any errors. From what I've read it seems that it's advisable to purchase a genuine Dell replacement battery rather than a compatible. Those 6 and 9 cell original Dell batteries from FirstShop seem to be some of the cheapest currently available. Let us know if you find something better.

Apparently many of the Chinese compatible batteries are filled with recycled batteries which come from farms like this!

Here are some examples of 'refurbished' laptop batteries!
