Dell Latitude D630 Woes.

My uncle got a Dell D630 yesterday with a Vodafone 3G contract.
Now, we excpeted to get a pcmcia card where you can just insert the sim and plug it in and everything works, but we didn't. The Dell has a slot where you can insert the whole simcard (size of a Credit Card) and then just open a program to connect to the internet.

This is where the problems start.

First: For some reason I get a "SIM Not Found - Check Orientation" error
and it wont go any further.

Second: The call centre people at Vodacom are a bunch of idiots and suggest we take the little sim card off the holder thing and put it in a cellphone to see if it gets a signal but if I do that then I won't be able to slide it into the laptop anymore.

Anyone have this problem? The drivers are updated and everything.

Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure you have the correct Drivers and Software versions installed for the 3G card. I had the same problem so I reformatted the laptop and installed the correct drivers from the Dell website. There are a number of different drivers on the Dell website so make sure you get the correct one. Check at the bottom of the laptop for the correct version/type of 3G card that is in the laptop and download the corresponding driver. I think you can also check on the Dell website what type of card was installed by entering the Serial number on the Dell website.

I phoned Dell as JUGGY advised and did a firmware update as the guy on the phone suggested. All works now.
