Hey guys, a week ago my aunt had some bad lightning storms in her area and something happened to her computer.

Since I'm the only one in the family who knows a thing or two about computers she gave it to me to fix the problem, but I am unable to find the fault.

Symptoms:

-CPU fan RPM maxing out
-Fails to post

Here is a clip of exactly whats going on (not my vid)

Is the heatsink hot to the touch? Is the RAM installed and can you test if its working or not? Lightning strikes can travel along power lines and can also damage electronic equipment, PCs usually being the second culprit after TVs.

Meh.

Vid does not want to play on mobile. (will try fix that later)

There can be a few end results.
Most common is damage to the mainboard either by the powerjack join or a chip that needs replacing.
Note that it is not impossible that the mainboard got damaged unrepairable.
Get it to a place that can test/repair the board if possible.... Then decide from there.

Hi There,
Yes sorry it is the season. Take it into a repair shop and ask them to check it out.
You could also putting in some protection as well.
Here is a post I put out last week. Protection is no guarantee though as lightning has a nasty habit of wandering wherever it finds the best path to ground.

Good luck and well done on being a good grandson
