Dell XPS One - Boot Loop

It's only 4GB RAM - should I go back to Windows 7 ?

I haven't cracked open the case - but do you think this is tough to upgrade? Maybe I Can find an old 4GB RAM stick?

Nah, Win10 is ok on 4GB as long as you don't try to perform miracles.

What's the full model number? Should not be too hard to upgrade. The full model# will also help with the touch screen drivers.

Hi,

It's Dell XPS One 2710 - Core i5 3450S 2.8 GHz / 4GB RAM / 1TB HDD / (2,560x,1,440) 27" monitor

She wants to sell it as she doesn't use it, but I suspect the specs are too low for resell. So, I was thinking of helping her with :

- Finding another 4GB RAM to at least get it to 8GB (if it fits)

Or sell as is ?
It's got HDMI In - so maybe just resell as a monitor ?

Its definitely still useful, even if its just as a display for security cameras or an interface to a home automation system.

The specs are fine for normal desktop use, 8GB ram & ssd will make it fly.

I would start by sorting out the boot loop, might just be a software issue. Try booting from a linux liveusb to test and if good format & install win10.

So Boot loop fixed and Windows 10 installed :)

I'll check the video above and maybe I'll just do that. Selling this as a monitor seems a waste :(

EDIT : I didn't realise it was easy to get in there ... thanks for the video !

so by the looks of it at 3:50 in the video, theres 2 sodimm slots for ram. without opening the pc up you can check with CPU-Z how many slots are occupied.
if its using 1 slot, just buy another 4gb. if its using 2x 2Gb, then you gota buy 2x 4Gb.

Also important, is how much RAM the mobo can support. CPU-z can give you more details about the mobo so you can google the model and try get this info.

Don't I need to get old RAM though ?
Has it changed in the past 7 years? ;)

I remember SIMM/DIMM and some RAM have certain cut outs, and others have other cuts outs ...

I did read that I needed 2 x chips - so this is probably 2 x 2GB :( I'll need to get 2 x 4GB

you will need DDR3 SODIMM (laptop/notebook) RAM.

I would just check how many modules are currently installed.

Check how many sodimms are installed first.

Open a CMD prompt as Administrator and type,
Code:
wmic memorychip list full

Copy and paste the full output text here.

According to the crucial site it takes DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V SODIMM RAM
Maximum memory: 16GB
