Democratic Alliance e-mail spam complaint – the plot thickens

This def points to that...

and its one reason i refuse to use DMASA.. they ask for too much info, and there is not guarantee that its not sold off to the highest bidder.

What e-mail address would he have given them? DA@******.com?

Apparently a normal one.

McLean said that if he did ever hand over an e-mail address “it would have been one of my real e-mail addresses. I only use aliases on web forms.”

The DA said that they will gladly remove McLean’s e-mail address from their system if it is requested

At least Mr Mclean can easily get his email address removed from the database if he wishes.

But it shouldn't have been there in the first place. that's the issue here.

Agreed..

But as an organisation as large as the DA..... they probably have 100's if not 1000's of people canvasing...

So 1 of those people "buys" a contact list, and then "fabricates" documentation for any that they are challenged on... of course the DA as an organisation would be none the wiser.

Liars. They spammed me as well and I never gave them my email address.

They spammed my work address as well, I don't use that for anything personal.

This does happen.

This does happen.

Without a doubt.. I've seen it happen at a different organisation.

What does need to happen though, is the person who provided the contact list this email address came from needs to have his lists audited and checked for accuracy.

Have you emailed them with your details and asked to be removed?

I have followed the unsubscribe link. Let's see if they honour it. Since they are dodgy who knows. Shouldn't need to do this in the first place. More reasons not to vote DA.

Im not sure how much money there is available for staff to do that, but I do agree with you.

or maybe if they get an unusual number of removal requests or bounces from a certain persons contact lists....

There needs to be a procedure to try and weed out people who are providing false/bought lists.

Is there any organisation with real teeth that could nail the DA, or any company for that matter, for doing this?
It's irrelevant that it's the DA... anyone caught doing this kind of cr@p needs to be severely reprimanded.
We have come to accept that every now and then our email addresses will get sold off, but that's complete bulls**t.
Brendon McLean has got a great (albeit high-maintenance) method of finding who's doing what with his info, but who else does that?
And why should we have to?
These a$$wipes need to stopped.

Agreed it's unacceptable. I never tick that box to consent to marketing on any form, so they should not have my number and email address. The onus should also not be on us to unsubscribe.
