So my tooth broke yesterday.

I'm on keyCare, they cover basic dentistry. The lady said that if something goes wrong like they need to take me into theater to extract it, it's not being covered by keyCare.

My question is if anyone knows roughly how much it costs to have your tooth/teeth removed in theater

Theater is crazy expensive. Just looking at the 15min wife spent in there with the emergency c-section of our son made me cringe. (luckily all covered)

Chances of you needing theater is very slim though.

I had a very bad tooth break few years ago and dentist did it in his rooms. Granted it took a bit longer and LOTS of bone crunching drilling and breaking to get it out. And lots of pain meds afterwards.

Just opt not to go to theatre and just visit a dentist and their practice.

That's what I meant yes. In his doctor room chair thingy with the grinders, drills, bright light and saliva sucking assistant creeping me out.

The worst part about local is seeing the dentist clamp your tooth and attempt to pull it out.

I'm super scared of dentists. Root canals will do that to you.

My one wisdom tooth is skew so I'm scared they'll try take that out as well. I might just run away

Worst is when they only break a part of the tooth off while trying to get it out with the pliers. Means more drilling, more grinding and more crunching in your head.

Surely that would constitute an emergency and therefore covered under the hospital plan?

Unless she meant THEY specifically aren't covered by Keycare for that.

Call Discovery and be sure rather than believing some external party.

Spoke to discovery. they'll cover it if it's just a normal extraction. Otherwise if something happens and they need to take me to theater for some reason, it's not covered

Perhaps go to a dentist you are covered by? A lot of dentists aren't actually covered by medical aids anymore. Especially Keycare which has a network of doctors,dentists etc...

They are part of the network. Basic extraction isn't a worry. The worry is if something goes wrong

Surely that would become an emergency, and thus be covered by keycare?
