Describe your workflow.

I have more faith in optical media than mechanical media (I have a box full of dead hard drives). I have lost one CD due to failure in 15 years (and I could recover the data with CD Diagnostic)
That's why I try and used both - I'm also throwing a copy onto a USB thumbdrive if its important stuff.

Digital photography lends itself to being backed up so the more the merrier. I just wish bandwidth was as inexpensive as it should be so I could throw a copy up into the cloud too.

BTW - you're lucky to have only lost one CD/DVD to corruption . . or maybe I'm just exceptionally unlucky. :(

Shoot
Import RAWs to 40D/YYYY-MM-DD with EOS Utility (the backslash key makes a # on this computer's kb.. hah)
Import folder into LR
Flag selection
Do a basic process of the RAWs (black point, exposure, WB)
Export 16bit PSDs
Post process in PS (the pen tool is my friend)
Export JPGs for print
Save PSDs in Edits folder within the RAWs folder

Took me a while to get my workflow right, but it's fine now. For personal events and walkabouts I just batch process in LR. Only flagged photos get edited in PS. A month or so after a shoot I trim the RAW catalog, keeping only the ones I used or can use in the future. It's best to keep all of them till you're sure though.

As for backup... well my external is dodgy as hell and I don't have money for a new one. Maybe early next year. Anyone know of any good deals?
