Designed by Apple in California

I'm sure someone's made a joke about this somewhere before.
:crylaugh:

Book with photos: $20
Slap a apple logo on it: $200
:D

“Designed by Apple in California” is available in small (10.20” x 12.75”) for $199 and large (13” x 16.25”) for $299 from Apple.com.

You're s**tting me. Even the books come in two models.

The book is about as upgradable as the new MacBook Pro.

But will it be compatible with my bookshelf?

Apple’s latest product is a $300 picture book

Move over, MacBook Pro—there's a new Apple book in town. It's called Designed by Apple in California, and it's a coffee table book filled with pictures of Apple's hardware. The book, like so many other Apple products, is available in two sizes: a 10.20" by 12.75" "Small" version that sells for $199 and a 13" by 16.25" "Large" version that costs $300.

The book is only a partial history of design at Apple, and it would be better described as a portfolio of Jony Ive's work. It starts in 1998 with the iMac and ends in 2015 with the Apple Pencil, and it doesn't just cover the successful designs—oddball one-offs like the G4 Cube are in there, too. The linen-bound book is "printed on specially milled, custom-dyed paper with gilded matte silver edges, using eight color separations and low-ghost ink" and "was developed over an eight-year period."

Jony Ive is still a part of Apple's executive team and he still occasionally gives interviews and narrates product videos, but in recent years, he seems to have scaled back his role at the company. In mid-2015, he handed off his "day-to-day managerial responsibilities" to Industrial Design VP Richard Howarth and User Interface Design VP Alan Dye.

If the book included inside stories about the design of the products it chronicles, it might be an interesting read—as it is, it's only going to appeal to people who want to pay a lot of money to stare at lovingly rendered phones and laptops. It will be on display at Apple's retail stores, where you can idly leaf through it as you wait for your Genius Bar appointment to start.

Apple’s ‘Designed by Apple in California’ hardcover book now available in more countries

After launching Designed by Apple in California back in November, the book celebrating 20 years of Apple product design is available today in more countries including Canada, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Brazil, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore, and many others. The book is available to purchase now through Apple.com and also through some of its retail stores.

The countries getting access to the book today join Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the UK and the US where the book launched initially late last year. In addition to being available online through Apple.com, the company is also selling it in select retail locations where available.

The hardbound book is available in two sizes— a 10.2 x 12.8-inch edition that sells for $199 US, and a larger 13 x 16.3-inch version that sells for $299 US— and features 450 photographs of Apple products from older Macs to new product lines including iPhone, iPod and Apple Watch. And the book itself was created by Jony Ive and his design team at Apple responsible for many of the products it highlights.

The company released the video below detailing the book’s creation, which it notes is printed on specially milled, custom-dyed paper with silver edges.

With the book appearing to be somewhat of a passion project for Apple and the design team, it’s unclear if it will be a limited release or how long the company plans to produce and sell it directly to customers.

You can buy Designed by Apple in California in the countries listed above through Apple.com and also check for local retail availability.
