Hi boys and girls
I need a computer desktop for the office, nothing fancy but not too slow if you know what I mean?
Specifically used with Office and internet / mails.
Would prefer a ready built all in one box maybe?
I dont feel like going through the building of it.
Also doesnt need an OS or programs I can do that myself
Your opinions and thoughts?
Just need the actual PC, I have a monitor etc etc, can use onboard graphics if possible as no games will be played

Thanks

What's your budget? A Nuc is a beautiful piece of kit. Compact, quiet and powerful enough to handle most of what you would be throwing at it.

not entirely sure, what is that you are talking about, NUC?

It's this.... a beautiful little box that pound for pound will go toe to toe with most entry to mid level desktops... durable, upgradeable (ram and hardrive) and super efficient and quiet (fanless)... compactness comes at a price though but there fair amount of used ones for sale. Absolutely love them!

Here you go

I'm looking at these NUCs and they're going for about R13k minus ram & storage? That's insane!

For less you could get something like this that includes ram&storage,

And it's overkill for an office desktop...

You can get a new i3 NUC with 8Gb ram and a 240Gb SSD for about R8500 incl. Not as powerful as the one Ponder listed but still fast enough for office work.

Another option is used mini pc's. A bit older (6th/7th gen CPU) but can be had for under 4k with 8Gb ram and a 256Gb SSD.

These little Lenovos are great deals, I bought one a couple years back and when I checked the warranty status it turned out to even have a year left of an extended warranty. Not that I had any issues with it, so would definitely recommend.

I thought you were googling wrong. SA prices for NUCs are insane.

Earlier this year I bought a NU8 i3 + Samsung 250GB M.2 + Crucial 8GB 2400Mhz DDR4 RAM for a grand total of: €340 (R5900)

Maybe there's a shortage but when you start looking at R10k+ for the same thing it's just ridiculous.

Yeah, I have 3 of these at home, one in each room used as HTPC's. 1 is a Dell Optiplex. Work great!!

Another vote for the NUC.

I had a NUC8i3BEH and it was awesome.

USB 3.0, HDMI, built-in AC WiFi, space for a 2.5" and M.2 SSD. It had a strong enough GPU for older games like StarCraft 2 and Red Alert 3 (Iris Plus 655).

For a dual core i3 that thing slapped, and it only cost me R2500 at the time (+- 2 years ago)

I also recommend an RTX 3090 so you can play a few games on it between emails.

The various compact builds start coming up around the price of a Mac mini once fully equipped. Not wanting to start a religious war, but the mini could potentially be added to the list for consideration. https://www.istore.co.za/mac-mini

Another option for a compact PC would be to select Mini-ITX components and have Wootware build it, especially since the OP does not need an OS. Here is one candidate list of components. This was a quick selection so the individual components could probably be refined further.

https://www.wootware.co.za/mushkin-...0gb-m-2-2280-pcie-nvme-solid-state-drive.html

Total component cost is R 7 854. Add to that Wootware's build cost (not sure how much this is).

What are you current PC specs? Perhaps if it's still using a mechanical HDD, just replace that with an SSD and save yourself a ton of cash.
