Desktop powered with Intel's Nehalem

We all want one..... now for the prices to come in, blow us apart for a few months, then hopefully drop enough so most of us can afford it.
I reckon this is going to be quite a hit sooner rather than later to be honest. People love to buy.... and upgrade......

*sigh* on sybaritic the 860 is going for R3181 (the 870 is going for double that). It is less than what I spend on my Q9450 almost a year ago. oh well... have to upgrade :P
I have to get a new motherboard anyway, but current nehalem owners are probably not happy, couldnt Intel keep the socket?!? or whatever the same?

The new Lynnfield i5 & i7 processors use a different board - the new LGA 1156 socket
Top i7 processors already released use a FCLGA 1366 cocket board
So be careful - don't buy i5 or i7 Lynnfield cpu and board thinking you can just replace processor in a few months with a top of the range i7 CPU cos it won't fit.

Interesting article explains sockets:

e.g. LGA 1156 will not have support for triple channel memory

sybaritic has the core i5 750 for zar 2100. thats the one im going for. orange computers has a msi p55-gd653 for zar 1999, theres my new system.

I must say I have the luxury of working with the Dell M610 blades that comes with two Nahelm quad core and 32 gig's of Ram pretty sweet.

After budgeting for the i7, i am now wondering whether I should be going to the i5 ???

So its got an integrated memory controller ? We've having that since 2005 on AMD :p

intel is so backwards and lame they really have to copy every little innovation AMD makes.

Broken record of note. Wow seriously there are other tunes to play dude :D.

As long as people buy intel I'll be reminding them that they are buying old AMD technology.

then why is amd's flagship cpu not beating intel's flagship cpu, better implementation ?

....Alpha 21364 (1998) had a IMC before amd64 (2003?) did.
The integration of the memory controller onto the die of the microprocessor is not a new concept. Some microprocessors in the 1990s such as the DEC Alpha 21066 and HP PA-7300LC had integrated memory controllers, but to reduce the cost of systems by removing the requirement for an external memory controller instead of increasing performance.

ow **** its not an amd invention...

So why then is intel thumping amd with technology they had in 2005, FFS they have had a 3 year head start yet still get thumped by intel.

WTF is going on with a company that does worse with technology it has had for 3 years longer?

Damn to me that makes amd look bad, really bad actually.
